In 2014 Asda made the decision to adapt to the intense changes in UK retailing by changing the store management structure by removing several middle management roles and increasing the junior management population. In line with the restructure the opportunity was taken to stretch my capabilities and be appointed in the same role at one of the most complex stores within the chain, with a turnover of £1m/week. The complexities arise from the demographics in the local area and the challenges that this brings. My direct reports include three departmental managers, three junior managers and approximately one hundred colleagues. This senior management role's primary responsibility is to lead the night team to replenish delivery and present the shop floor for the morning handover.Duties: • Consistent delivery of the shop-floor on a nightly basis, with primary focus on all trading departments within the store including foodhall, textiles and home and leisure.• Coaching, inspiring and energising night leadership team to manage integrity of replenishment, retail standards and merchandising activity.• Collaboratively work with the day team through evening and morning handovers to drive the continuous cycle and deliver store KRA's.• Plan, organise and review to deliver both immediate opportunities and long term goals to drive the night operation forward, for delivering continuous improvement.• Particular focus on the customer shopping experience during the out of hours trading for customer retention to drive sales and maximise profitability.• Total control of the night operation including all sales-floor departments, petrol station, checkout, security, cash handling, trading law and health and safety.
