Audit has focussed my application of financial theory and developed my ability to perform detailed analysis. Whist at EY I have completed the first 7 ICAS exams and have been involved in the audit of several large listed (FTSE 350) Energy, Commodities trading and fast moving consumer goods entities. EY has also given me the opportunity to lead planning activities as well as work in business areas and on financial accounts that are new to me. Outside of work, I have been involved in the EY Smart Futures Program which offers mentorship to students from low income families looking for experience in the financial services industry.EY has offered me the chance to further myself in interaction with clients whilst developing clear communication channels to manage expectations both internally and externally within the firm. I have been able to grow through my attendance at a wide variety of internal events and always encouraged by my seniors to challenge my own ability to further my ability.I believe that going forward, I will be able to use the skills I have learnt in Audit to ensure my work is completed efficiently, effectively and to a timely manner. I feel that I have furthered my ability to lead when required, and established my understanding of the importance of group work.

Whilst at University, I worked in a consultancy group for a local engineering business assisting in global research with the focus being on new market entry. We assessed the market barriers within these new countries as well as the global macroeconomic environment conditions. We produced a final report for the company to provide some oversight on the potential advantages and disadvantages of the markets selected, whilst concluding on general market conditions. I focussed predominantly on the financial analysis and operational elements of the risk, but was also head of planning ensuring a clear, efficient and effective plan was introduced.

Thomson Reuter’s has focussed my application of financial business theory. During my time at the firm, I undertook a number of financial analysis’ looking specifically at White Space analysis within a large Business segment. This included identifying potential saturation in the market place and progressed as to how we could further exploit customer gaps.I also looked at compliance levels of customer spend to identify potential increases in wider revenue streams with some of our legal products.A personal project I undertook was to produce a product hierarchy across the various financial reporting tools used at Thomson Reuters. These systems include SAP and Tesseract. After understanding how these systems operated, I focussed on identifying common denominators and reporting patterns to produce a definitive mapping application for future business users.

L’Oreal offered me my first experience working for an organisation in Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG). The role included being in charge of the UK’s travel spend (£4 million) and negotiating on a regular basis with the relevant travel suppliers to the group.Regular analysis based work has improved my IT skills using tools such as Microsoft’s Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. I have also been trained in using industrial tools such as SAP for procurement analysis.The busy office environment required me to further develop my communication skills and I feel that this quality will now help me in any future business environment. By being set regular targets, I have also been able to improve my ability to meet deadlines whilst producing quality pieces of work. This work can include quantitative analysis for a business decision or qualitative breakdowns to assist in future operational changes. One example of this was launching an RFP with facilities management after identifying a £75,000 annual saving within L’Oreal’s post room. After presenting to the senior leadership team, this project was launched in June 2015.I very much enjoyed my time in the role as it offered me the chance to see cost savings in action whilst focussing on lean business efficiency.This industrial experience has further developed my understanding of business theory in a practical setting. Working in a diverse office has also helped me understand alternative approaches to Operations whilst developing my employability skillset

During my internship at Aish Technologies I was directly involved in the administrative side of the companies Business Improvement function. This involved processing purchase orders through the company’s financial tool (Javelin) as well as contacting suppliers for quotations on smaller purchases.I was also tasked with identifying current high expenditure points, and putting together analysis for spend alternatives.My communication skills greatly improved during this internship as well as teaching me the importance of how to correctly negotiate with an external stakeholder.This work experience allowed me to apply the business theory I have learned at University, whilst also enabling me to further myself as a future employee upon graduation by developing some of my core skills.
