Worldwide

Role: Sailing on expedition vessels as a naturalist lecturer and zodiac-driving wildlife guide visiting many tropical and temporal regions and ecosystems whilst educating people on the wonders of nature. • Main Responsibilities:- Present lectures and ‘recap’ presentations about local wildlife, their behaviours and adaptations. In particular, ornithology and invasive species.- Lead a wide variety of tours including land-based treks and short walks, bus-based city tours and driving zodiac RIBs to find wildlife whilst exploring waterways and ensuring group safety.- Socialising with excellent customer focus on a daily basis.- Educational in-field talks on wildlife conservation and human-animal conflict.

Orkney Islands, Scotland, United Kingdom

• Role: Safeguarding the unique and internationally important native wildlife of Orkney by addressing the threat it faces from invasive non-native stoats as well as providing other community benefits.• Main Responsibilities:- Complete wildlife surveys to ascertain the responsiveness of native wildlife to ongoing eradication efforts. This includes the endemic Orkney Vole and several wading, passerine and raptor bird species.- Carrying out seabird monitoring included roost counts, ringing activities and breeding census (8 species). - Production of new protocols for monitoring wildlife, such as Orkney Vole Microtus arvalis.- Manage of a team of 7, including performance reviews, direction and organization.- Utilise GIS to create maps for in field use.- Develop the projects’ Citizen Science approach and instruct volunteers on how to use equipment.- Engage communities and visitors with local wildlife and raising awareness of the islands' importance for wildlife with tourism providers. - Participate with the eradication of stoats utilizing DOC200, GoodNature and camera traps.

Easdale, Scotland, United Kingdom

• Role: Whilst living in a remote part of Britain, educate visitors to appreciate and gain a greater understanding of nature around them.• Main Responsibilities:- Wildlife guide for tourist groups (up to 12 people) on the beautiful and biodiverse Argyll coast and its islands which is home to a hive of marine activity and hosts the third largest whirlpool in the world. - Responsible for the safety of the group.- Identification and monitoring of Whales, Otters, Dolphins, Eagles and 15 species of seabirds.- Produce social media output.- Drive and operate a small RIB daily.- Give in depth, detailed and varied talks on all facets of nature, geology, geography and folklore of Scotland.

Seychelles

• Role: Overall responsibility for setting up and implementation of a conservation workplan based on an extremely remote location in the Indian Ocean • Main Responsibilities:- Undertake several long-term monitoring programs. These included, but were not limited to; Seabirds, Coral, Fishery and Turtles.- Skipper of 18ft skiff around the atoll, journeys up to 40km per day, in very challenging conditions. - Implementing the turtle (Green and Hawksbill) research project, which is part of a huge study across the Seychelles and requires extensive data collection, data management and analysis. The protocol followed is well established and thorough, looking in to facets such as breeding success, census and also movements at sea.- Carrying out seabird monitoring included roost counts, breeding census (9 species), GPS tracking, breeding success and habitat selection. - Carrying out coral monitoring, an in-depth look at the biodiversity and health of coral, (to genus level) from destruction to bleaching at regularly dived spots. - Implementing the fishery monitoring protocol ranged from GIS analysis to identifying new spawning grounds and even determining levels of toxification of individual fish.- Production of new protocols for monitoring wildlife.- Management of a small team and budget.- Utilsation of GIS skills.- Assisting researchers, particularly with GIS skills.- Meetings with stakeholders together with thorough reports (monthly, annually and technically).- Writing project plans, such as the vegetation restoration of Ile du Sud to improve nesting seabird colonies.- Creating media outputs such as newspaper articles and documentary films.- Performing wildlife excursions and presentations for guests. Mauritius

• Role: Oversee project implementation at my field station, based in an extremely remote location in Mauritius• Main Responsibilities:- Data collection and entry on 8 species of birds, 4 species of reptiles - Handling, ringing and husbandry of wild birds, primarily the Pink Pigeon Project.- Report writing.- Liaising with bilateral authorities.- Habitat surveying, mist netting, behavioral ecology monitoring.- Upkeep and maintenance of a field station.- Predator control.- Working on other projects, such as birds of prey, passerines and Seabirds on Round Island.
