Lightning Delivery Team - Abbey Wood Bristol

KEY HEADLINE ACHIEVEMENT: In lieu of the SO1 Sustainment Contract Account Mgr (CAM) during a protracted period of negotiations activity with Industry; as the single Crown technical member to a small negotiations team, was accountable to the Sustainment Lead for delivering an affordable/VfM 5 year F35B Lighting II future sustainment solution (£161M) which met the customer’s technical requirements; this product also included additional services & more robust means of incentivisation. ROLE BACKGROUND -The technical lead in the development and delivery of requirements within the UK National Support Solution for the Lightning aircraft.-Represent UK interests in development of the Global Support Solution, ensuring that the necessary technical and airworthiness requirements are met.-The lead for performance management arrangements, including production of bilateral and multilateral Performance Based Agreements (VfM).-The sponsor of UK Lightning aircraft and sustainment procurement (Beddown) plan and lead on Weapon System Planning Document reviews.-Provide technical review of Lightning Sustainment contracting action.

KEY HEADLINE ACHIEVEMENTS Year 1 - Against the backdrop of COVID, land the necessary sponsorship & attendance at the ISSSC iot deliver effective Protocol engagement whilst concurrently planning & executing a successful HRH visit.Year 2 - Against the backrop of financial & cost of living crisis, delivered both the highest sponsorship funds objective set to date and significant sponsor representation attendance iot set conditions for a highly successful ISSSC with effective Protocol engagement.ROLE BACKGROUND- As a Charitable Trust and in order for the UKAFWSA to continue to deliver its objectives (see below); as the Director of Sponsorship I ensure objective funds are generated via effective engagement with private corporate organisations who wish to sponsor our purpose. Event delivery and Protocol hosting then follows, principally at the Inter Services Snow Sports Competition (ISSSC). - As the Royal Patron Liaison Officer and concurrent to the above, I develop & deliver a comprehensive visit programme for HRH, when attendance at the ISSSC has been confirmed by the Household.The UKAFWSA exists to develop team building, self-discipline, moral courage, physical courage, fitness and to promote excellence in winter sports; all of which can be transposed back to the Font Line, thus strengthening the Operational ethos of the UK’s Armed Forces. The UKAFWSA delivers the highest standards in sporting excellence, enabling the fielding of highly competitive athletes/teams for completion at the National and International level, including the Olympics and Paralympics.

Mod Main Building - Security Policy And Operations - Covid Team - Enable

- Broadening secondment job.- Complex & reactive role given the dynamic nature of the COVID global pandemic environment.- Shaping the inbound (fluxing Red List) and outbound Defence Quarantine infra/services in order to efficiently & cost effectively balance demand vs capacity against rapidly changing Defence output requirements. - Effective engagement with X Whitehall departments (e.g. DHSC).- Centrally holding policy, approvals and issuing orders to enact changes to Defence Quarantine infra/service posturing.

Capital Ships Strategic Class Authority - Ships Support

-Held an Explosives Key Hazard Area Safety Delegation (SD) from the Capital Ships Platform Authority.-The lead for writing/delivering the explosives safety case in order to fully substantiate that the QEC Platform could safely embark, store, transfer, prepare & handle (up to aircraft load) a full UK and key overseas partner munitions outload.- An incredibly complex portfolio covering a wide ranging stakeholder landscape; this included Intrinsic weapon safety teams, key overseas partners, Naval Authority & Explosives Regulators, combat/marine & automated weapon handling Equipment Authorities, Air Commodity teams and Duty Holders.-Equally demanding Strategic deadlines in order to trial/exercise, underpin & certify HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH as safe and operationally fit to undertake her duties as the spearhead to the inaugural global UK Carrier Strike Group (CSG) Deployment.

Aviation Systems Group - Ships Support

-Based on Ship Aviation Facilities design, flight trials and read across data; in conjunction with the Air System Type Airworthiness Authority (TAA), delivered safe and operationally effective Ship to Air System interfaces and operating envelopes.-Jointly Chairing Ship Air Release (SA-R) Equipment Working Groups with the respective Air System TAAs, for both Type 23 Frigate & Landing Platform Dock (LPD) Platforms.-Delivered Full SA-R operational clearances for Merlin Mk2 (organic) and Merlin Commando All Marks (non-organic) to both Type 23 Frigate and LPD Platforms.-Lead MOD engineer during the evaluation (safety, design compliance and capability) of the Type 31 Frigate Aviation Facilities candidate designs during Competitive Design Phase and prior to the programme down select.

Merlin Project Team - Leonardo Helicopters Yeovil

-Held a Letter of Airworthiness Authority for Transmission Systems supporting a Fwd active fleet of 55 Merlin (All Marks) aircraft.- The Transmission System scope included all rotable sub systems beyond the gas turbine engines; namely Main Rotors, Main Rotor Drive, Tail Rotors, Tail Rotor Drive, Blade Fold and Accessory Gearbox systems.-Responsible for sustaining and enhancing the Airworthiness of all in-Service Merlin aircraft.-The post principally involved making significant Airworthiness & Air Safety decisions. Example activity included addressing any technical queries, the production & management of Technical Instructions to actively manage any safety issues, approving component life extensions, recommending modifications for approval, reviewing fault investigation outcomes & acting accordingly and approving more permanent publication & procedural amendments. - The role, provided the Type Airworthiness Authority (TAA) and Duty Holder (DH) chain with Transmission System engineering specialist advice that may either stop or enable flight to continue, directly affecting operational output and availability.-Numerous occasions, some fleet wide and some of a more discrete operational circumstance, whereby risk balance vs operational demand decisions had to be made in order to maintain flying operations.-Other endeavours included safely increasing Main Rotor Head and Swashplate bay maintenance calendar based periodicity, which in turn increased aircraft availability and reduced overall operating costs.

Falkland Islands

-Broadening Job working as the Military Assistant to Commander British Forces (CBF) South Atlantic Islands within the HQ and Joint Operations Centre at Mount Pleasant Complex in the Falklands.-Managing his Staff and Diary; enabling activities from directing/overseeing readiness exercises to effective engagement with the Falklands Islands Government and local communities.-Acting as the gatekeeper between the Assistant Chiefs of Staff (ACOS) and CBF, in conjunction with the Chief of Staff (COS); the gel to the HQ.-Planned and executed highly successful 3 to 4 day visits by Military VIPs, such as the Chief of Joint Operations (CJO - 3*) and Deputy Commander Field Army (DCFA - 2*); these visits included multiple complex moving parts such as vehicle & air moves across the islands.

Maritime Aviation Division (Ship Aircraft Interface)

-Reviewed design, equipment safety documentation and inspection reports to support the Certification of Frigates, Destroyers & Patrol Ships’ aviation facilities in accordance with Defence Standard 00-133, Aviation Arrangements in Surface Ships.-Required detailed understanding of Regulatory Articles, Policy and Design Standards (incl civilian, such as CAP-437, Standards for Offshore Helicopter Landing Areas); I was intrinsically involved in a significant re-brigade of the UK Defence Standard 00-133.-The Military Aviation Authority lead for reviewing the maturing & evolving arrangements of the Type 26 Frigate’s aviation facilities, from an equipment safety and design compliancy perspective.-Lead work to review flight deck obstruction over-height limitations and associated Aircraft Scatter formulation methodologies; the probability of where aircraft will make contact with the deck up at various sea states (6 degrees of freedom), all of which drives flight deck size and therefore associated platform DESIGN COST.

Hms Illustrious

-An Explosives Responsible Officer to the Ship's Explosives Organisation and Section Leader to 12 personnel responsible for the safe embarkation, stowage, preparation and transfer of Air Weapons to aircraft and the Embarked Military Force (usually 3 Cdo Brigade).-Post her last ever Refit, brought the Ship materially up to standard and then planned & executed a full munitions outload embarkation serial at the Northern Ammunitioning Jetty; necessary to enable HMS ILLUSTRIOUS' declaration as the Nation's High Readiness carrier.-My team planned and delivered the Air Weapons to support the first Army Air Corps Apache high seas firing of Hellfire missiles from a CVS Invincible Class carrier.- As Ships Company; experienced Flag Officer Sea Training, various exercises including Joint Warrior and a UKTG Cougar 12 deployment into the Mediterranean, which culminated with Exercise Albanian Lion.

771 Naval Air Squadron

-Day to day leadership & management of an engineering organisation up to 150 personnel, maintaining and supporting 8 to 9 Sea King HAR Mk5 aircraft in order to deliver serviceable & airworthy high readiness Search & Rescue and ab inito/conversion aircraft to meet daily fly requirements.- Held Authorisations to defer faults, impose limitations and extend scheduled maintenance.-Managed the aircraft plot; scheduling aircraft for dispatch to depth facilities and on Squadron longer term zonal surveys.-Lead the off aircraft support organisations such as ground & survival equipment.-Lead the deployed engineering teams to support 2x aircraft detachments in HMS ILLUSTRIOUS, Republic of Ireland and to the Arctic Circle in Norway for pilot recirculation training in support of the insertion of Sea King Air Surveillance and Control (ASaC) Mk7 aircraft of 849 Naval Air Squadron into OP HERRICK in Afghanistan. -Lead the Squadron trials and evaluation effort to support the introduction of an organic Forward Looking Infra-Red (FLIR) camera turret.-Divisional Coordinator and lead for pastoral & welfare care of the Squadron engineering personnel.

Britannia Royal Naval College And Defence College Of Aeronautical Training

- Initial programme of intensive military and leadership training included multiple practical exercises to test teamwork & leadership and participation in rigorous circumstances.- Exercises were practically applied via ship-borne deployments to the Mediterranean and Baltic in support of NATO tasking.- Subsequent Systems Engineering and Management Training, encompassed practical aviation systems engineering, maintenance policy and principles, quality assurance and departmental and unit management.- Culminated in 4-month practical qualification assessment on an active Squadron with a series of oral boards with senior engineering staff.
