Seconded from SWR to Siemens from the inception of the project as a maintenance technician. I was recognised for my self motivation, enthusiasm, technical abilities and professionalism whilst developing Risk Assessments, Safe Operating Procedures, reviewing and amending Vehicle Maintenance Instructions and developing a materials database for Vehicle Maintenance Exams. I was encouraged by my seniors to apply for the vacant Shift Managers role. Overseeing the day to day maintenance and repair of 30 Class 707 Siemens Desiro City Trains through commissioning, to the fleets successful introduction to passenger service on the SWR network. Leading a team consisting of a Team Leader, 2 x Technical Support Engineers and up to 4 x MB3 Engineering Technicians at a time, whilst liaising with the Siemens AG Commissioning Team. My Duties include:• Ensure all maintenance and repair activities are completed safely and in line with procedures in order to meet Service Availability targets and improve fleet performance. • Ensure all our staff are deployed effectively and are following Health & Safety rules and regulations, Railway Group Standards and company policies and procedures.• Control the short term planning of the servicing and repair of rolling stock.• Giving technical guidance to staff.• Use I.T. systems as necessary to interrogate for information on defects, workload and report on completed work, outstanding or deferred.• Ensure recording of work is effectively controlled and reported in required timescales using the Maintenance Management System, before rolling stock is returned to service.• Identifying areas for continuous improvement.• Provide technical advice to Fleet Control Managers dealing with defects in traffic and where necessary dispatching technicians for in service repair or recovery of rolling stock.

Wimbledon Train Care Depot

Multiskilled engineering technician carrying out planned and reactive maintenance on both AC and DC traction rolling stocks including class 455, 456 and 458/5, before being seconded to Siemens for the introduction of the Class 707 fleet. Applying my previously gained experience and knowledge of mechanical, electrical and process control engineering, I utilised my skills to maintain and fault find on systems including Traction, Brakes, Auxiliaries, Safety Systems, Passenger Information Systems, Doors, HVAC, Bogies and Underframe.

I joined the business as a qualified electrician on a 6 month temporary contract, with no previous mechanical engineering experience. I quickly adapted and before long was carrying out all manner of mechanical/electrical maintenance and fault finding, whilst also carrying out electrical installation and upgrade work. I was then offered a permanent position on a 4 year apprenticeship, which I completed in 2 years. Based primarily at Norlands and Beddington Landfill Gas Power Plants. My duties included:• Responsible for the essential operation and maintenance of power generation plant and associated environmental control equipment. • Responsible for all electrical maintenance, repairs and upgrade work, plus inspection and testing of systems.• Lead a team in carrying out full, in-frame overhauls of large scale internal combustion engines.• Participating in the on-call rota system to provide out of normal operational hours cover.• Providing technical support to other sites and areas when required, for complex fault finding.• Ensuring that all routine PPM’s and non-routine maintenance of the power generation, environmental control equipment and associated plant is carried out. In order to achieve minimal downtime and maximum efficiency. • Ensure the safe, continuous extraction of landfill gas in order to adhere to the strict environmental control regulations.In my time with Viridor I played a key role in contributing to my sites consistently achieving some of the highest generation export figures within our company.
