CurrentWithin my role as Safety, Health and Environmental (SH&E) Manager I 'am responsible for the strategic oversight of safety across the division and the development and embedding of a culture of safety and continuous improvement. My role involves overseeing the creation, updating, monitoring and delivery of the departmental SH&E strategies, implementation of the SH&E management system and the development of plans, policies and standards that ensure the division complies applicable legislation and the requirements of regulatory bodies.I ‘am responsible for:•Driving the development and delivery of a divisional safety strategy and Safety and Corporate Responsibility (S&CR) plans that improve safety, delivers strong safety culture, reduces operational safety incidents and promotes continual improvement.•Leading and managing the implementation of the SH&E management system and associated policies and procedures in line with company SMS principles; and in compliance with applicable legislation, European and national standards.•Authorisation of NI Railway Rules and Regulations amendments, alterations and reviews, including signing off operating instructions, local instructions and rule book associated instructions from a Rail Services perspective •Ensuring the safety management arrangements secure relevant safety certification for the Rail Undertaking, leading the submission to the statutory authorities in both NI and ROI.•Co-ordinating and managing accident investigations, developing corrective action plans to prevent reoccurrence and promote staff awareness, embedding a culture of continuous improvement. • Promoting a strong safety culture and staff engagement through regular staff safety communication at all levels, leading and ensuring collaborative working with Trade Union Safety Representatives and associated Health and Safety Committee(s). •Providing assurance to senior management that all operational functions are compliant in relation to safety and assurance
Safety Manager
Within my role as Safety Manager, I 'am responsible for managing the development of the divisional Safety Management System ensuring all elements are in compliance with the corporate SMS and ORR requirements. I ensure the development and implementation of cross divisional safety standards, processes and procedures to ensure compliance with the SMS.I ensure continuous improvement within the division by developing the Infrastructure Annual Safety Plan and lead a number of cross divisional safety improvement projects.Continuous consultation with staff safety representatives from various disciplines on new safety standards and procedures takes place, promoting staff involvement and improve safety behaviour.In line with continuous monitoring, I lead the delivery of the safety audits inspections programme. Within this role I have the overall responsibility to ensure a safe and cost-effective delivery of high-quality customer service for rail public transport within the Southern Area. I continually assessed, monitored and managed all operations of rail transport services within our stations. I was also responsible for developing and coordinating the control of changes to processes and procedures within Translink’s Engineering Division.

I also conducted health and safety inspections and prepared reports, carried out investigations into all accidents and near-miss incidents and recorded the findings, highlighted areas where training/certification was required to meet the standards imposed by Legislation, Approved Codes of Practice, or H.S.E. guidance and identified new techniques for improving health, safety and welfare to the attention of the Director responsible for health and safety.
