CurrentAs a Trainee Quantity Surveyor, I have gained hands-on experience in the financial management of construction projects. My primary duties include:Cost Estimation & Budgeting: Assisting in preparing detailed cost estimates for projects by analyzing architectural drawings, specifications, and client requirements. I support the preparation of preliminary budgets, helping ensure cost efficiency from project inception to completion.Procurement: I work alongside senior surveyors to compare costs, negotiate prices, and ensure the best value for materials and services.Cost Monitoring: Monitoring ongoing project costs by tracking expenditures against the initial budget. I assist in maintaining accurate records of material and labor costs, identifying cost variations, and reporting discrepancies to the senior quantity surveyor.Valuations & Payments: Supporting the preparation of interim valuations for work completed, ensuring that contractors are paid promptly and fairly. I assist in conducting site visits to verify work progress, ensuring the accuracy of valuations.Contract Administration: Assisting with contract documentation and ensuring compliance with contractual terms. This includes helping to prepare variations, resolving disputes, and providing input into contract amendments when necessary.Final Accounts: Contributing to the preparation of final accounts at the conclusion of projects, ensuring all costs are accounted for and that the project stays within the financial framework agreed upon with the client.Collaboration: Working closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and project managers to gather information, assess project progress, and provide financial advice that supports decision-making.This role has allowed me to develop a strong foundation in quantity surveying.
