Insurance underwriter for small businesses with turnover up to £5m. Started off learning the underwriting trade and had a panel of brokers to look after, discuss and negotiate renewals and set up new business. I used to visit the brokers across the country too to help build relationships with our broker managers. Broker relations were strengthened further by visits to our insured risks where I would be involved in loss prevention/crime prevention advice to the small businesses.I then moved to RSA Enterprise department to look after small business risks of up to £1m turnover. As the Enterprise set up was all on a new software, and with my knowledge of underwriting from the book rates using calculations, it was my job to work closely with new members of the team to help them evaluate risks correctly. This soon lead to a promotion to Techanial Insurance Underwriter, a role that saw the underwriters dealing with brokers have to approach me to ask for help with trying to price up a particularly difficult risk. I also used to be selected to attend RSA HQ in Liverpool to help test the Enterprise software upgrades/amendments due to my extensive knowledge of the software.
