Ever since I started working as a Wildland Firefighter with the Department of Forestry in 2013, I caught what we in the business like to call "the fire bug." There was nothing I loved more than putting out fires and protecting the community's homes and resources, which is why I continued to do so for a total of seven fire seasons. Today, that fire bug has evolved into my current role as an EMT, where I continue to thrive in an emergency setting while helping others.The lifestyle of a seasonal firefighter allowed me to pursue several careers during my off-season and gain the skills required to excel along the way. Those careers include: utilizing my music degree as a freelance performer; package delivery driver for UPS; Instructional Assistant at Serendipity Center, a therapeutic school for children who require more than what public education has to offer; and a warehouse laborer for a beverage distribution center where I worked my way up to Coffee Route Sales Representative within two months.Finally, before my final fire season with the Oregon Department of Forestry, I completed an accelerated course to obtain my EMT license in Oregon and Washington. I currently work as an EMT for Metro West Ambulance, where I spend most of my time in the Wheelchair Transportation Department and occasionally in the 911 department on the ambulance. My time with the Department of Forestry as a Forest Officer gave me invaluable experience for both my current position and any future careers I may choose. I learned and improved my skills in emergency scene management, leadership, teamwork, fire suppression tactics, law enforcement and interpretation, and deescalating irate or panicked individuals. I love utilizing each and every one of these skills in whatever I do. I truly believe my diverse background has been nothing but advantageous for anything I'll ever set out to accomplish.
