In this role, the Quality Engineer develops, modifies, applies, and maintains quality evaluation and control systems and protocols in a heavy manufacturing environment. The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring requirements are met throughout various fabrication processes (ex. weld, machining, portable drill) across multiple vehicle platforms.Develops, modifies, applies and maintains quality evaluation and control system protocols for in process, partially finished or finished hull structure and weldment product.Collaborates with various support organizations to investigate, document, communicate and resolve issues specific to various military vehicle fabrication processes.Knowledgeable in quality methodologies, utilizes quality tools to help drive continuous improvement.

This position leads, and supervises the weld and machine shop inspection personnel concerned with the quality assurance of industrial processes, materials and products by performing the following duties. Ensures a safe working environment and that employees are following all required safety and environmental practices and protocols. Leads, mentors, and fosters a teamwork approach to supervising the inspection work team.  Ensures each employee satisfies all development and training requirements. Provides work flow / priority guidance and manages personnel issues related to the inspector job classification.  Manages timekeeping and vacation scheduling for inspection work teams Works closely with operations and production supervisors to ensure customer commitments are met. Provides communication to inspectors / production personal on customer issues. Ensures the inspection activities are in compliance with customer requirements and the Quality Management System. Leads, and participates in work team continuous improvement / kaizen activities. Works with Quality Engineering and may participate in the review of design, manufacturing, purchasing and test documentation to ensure that the design and customer’s requirements can be met on assigned products within the production environment.  Works closely with the Quality Engineers to develop systems and procedures to clarify engineering and quality work instructions and requirements. Works closely with operations and production supervisor to support inspection of post rework, repair and remanufactured products. Develops new approaches to solve problems identified during quality assurance activities. Communicates significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and provides recommended process improvements to management. Prepares and presents technical and program information to team members and management.

Process Improvement and Lean Concepts 05/2012 The purpose of the project was to reduce the time for changeovers when switching from job to job. During this project we took video tapes of the current process and implemented staging areas for material and reflowed the processes associated with the job change. After the second video that contained our new approach we were able to see 64% reduction in the time it took to change jobs.

The sortation was moved from the front of the building to the back located near the docks where trucks are unloaded to increase efficiency and decrease errors. By moving sortation closer to the docks, we were able to decrease the sortation time by 20% thus allowing us to store the parts in a more efficient manner, which led to orders being filled at a quicker rate which in turn increased customer satisfaction.
