The world needs more people who want to get lost in the woods. Growing up, my family always looked at me funny when I claimed that's what I wanted to do. My Grandma who's been farming for generations still calls me the tree doctor and gives me the monthly Arbor Society catalog. When I discovered ecology; I realized how I could turn that passion into a professional career. I got my first professional bushwacking experience by completing an invasive species survey in the Northwoods of Michigan this past summer. While I was out there to collect coordinates and population measurements of the invasive populations; I also got the experience of trekking through a beautiful river, over beaver damns, and swatting more mosquitoes than I ever thought possible. I gained ample experience working with the FIeldmaps applications, planting/transplanting native species, and the removal of high-risk invasive species populations. The work I completed last summer parallels my current education. I have completed small restoration projects, stream surveys, and species identification through my Ecology and Botany classes. Throughout my life, I have taken every possible opportunity to get outside and put my hands in the soil or walk through the forest. Now that I am entering the environmental workforce; I only hope to continue down that path.

  Completed an Invasive species survey, documented locations of invasive species, mapped invasive species in Field maps, removed invasive species, and introduced plan for ecological restoration.Worked in greenhouse management tending to multiple aspects of sustainable agriculture. Managed fully functional aquaponics setup to grow vegetables, managed three hoop houses to produce vegetables for the campus cafeteria, cared for chickens and quail, and provided in-depth educational tours on botanical and ecological functions of the local plants.
