Tom Downey is a successful litigator with over 35 years experience in a wide variety of trial matters. Admitted to the Ohio bar in 1974, Tom Downey began his legal career as a law clerk to the Honorable Thomas J. Parrino, Judge, Ohio Court of Appeals, Eighth Appellate District. In 1975, he became an associate at Squire, Sanders & Dempsey in Cleveland, Ohio, where he gained experience in private and public sector labor and employment law, corporate and municipal bond financing and in a variety of civil litigation matters. Mr. Downey moved to Denver and was admitted in Colorado in 1979. He became associated with Holme, Roberts & Owen where he litigated land use and zoning, bankruptcy, oil and gas, insurance coverage, OSHA, MSHA and a wide variety of real estate, banking and commercial matters. Since founding the predecessors to Downey & Associates in 1983, Mr. Downey’s practice has continued to include a wide variety of litigation as well as business transaction matters. Mr. Downey has earned a reputation as an aggressive litigator in national products liability matters, complex commercial litigation, plaintiffs’ personal injury litigation and Colorado property tax litigation. He is also experienced in representing clients in alternative dispute resolution matters, and is a trained arbitrator and mediator. Mr. Downey has lectured to professional associations and trade organizations on ethics, mediation, OSHA, employment and Colorado real property taxation matters. He is an active member of the American, Colorado and Denver Bar Associations and has participated in a number of other professional, charitable and community organizations. Mr. Downey is the author of the Colorado chapter of Business Torts: A Fifty-State Guide.
