Oversee lawsuits filed against the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections in federal and state courts, and supervise attorney, paralegal, and secretarial staff who handle those cases on behalf of ODRC. These lawsuits are primarily 1983 suits, writs of mandamus, and declaratory judgment actions, which are routinely filed in the court of common pleas around Ohio, Ohio appellate courts, the Ohio Supreme Court, federal district courts in the Northern and Southern district, and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Criminal Justice Section

Defend criminal appeals in all stages before federal courts and advise / assist in criminal prosecutions, post-conviction proceedings, clemencies, and appeals. I argue regularly before the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. I have assisted with drafting petitions for rehearing en banc before the Sixth Circuit. I have assisted with drafting of petitions for writ of certiorari to the United States Supreme Court. On behalf of the State of Ohio, I have made oral and written arguments in clemency hearings before the Ohio Parole Board. I have argued cases in Ohio appellate courts, and submitted briefs to the Ohio Supreme Court. Health & Human Services Section

Served as general and trial counsel for various state regulatory boards. Brought charges against chiropractors, doctors, and other healthcare providers for breaching Ohio’s regulations and laws, and conducted evidentiary hearings before hearing officers and regulatory boards. Also, represented those regulatory boards in civil litigation. Reported case: Jackie S. v. Connelly, 442 F. Supp.2d 503 (S.D. Ohio, 2006) (dismissal of case after finding Title I of the Rehabilitation Act did not contain an express or implied cause of action for alleged systemic violations).

Washington Courthouse, Ohio

Assisted Fayette County Prosecuting Attorney in prosecution of juvenile / criminal cases. Worked with local law enforcement agencies, victims, and witnesses; maintain caseload involving bench trials, motion hearings, plea agreements, and jury trial. Practiced primarily before the Fayette County Probate/Juvenile Court and the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas. Primary responsibilities included preparing briefs, pleadings, examine witnesses, and conducting plea negotiations.

Civil practice primarily involved handling divorces, personal injury, title examinations, real estate transactions, and probate.
