Thomas Wayne Edison is an Associate Professor of Spanish in the Department of Classical and Modern Languages at the University of Louisville. He received his Doctorate from the University of Kentucky in 2002 and the title of his dissertation was "Afro-Caribbean Ontology in the Afro-Hispanic Resistance Novels of Alejo Carpentier, Quince Duncan, Manuel Zapata Olivella, and Carlos Guillermo Wilson". This former Fulbright Scholar has published numerous articles in journals such as Hispania and The College Language Association Journal. His current area of research is African-Caribbean spirituality in contemporary Latin American narrative and cinema. His first book titled "Ashé -Caribbean Literary Aesthetic in the Cuban, Colombian, Costa Rican, and Panamanian Novel of Resistance" was published in Fall 2020 by Lexington Books. Dr. Edison has worked in many leadership roles as the Chair of the Department of World Languages at Anne Arundel Community College (Arnold, Maryland). Currently he is the Chair of the Diversity Equity Inclusion Committee (DEIC) for the Department of Classical and Modern Languages at the University of Louisville. Edison has served as an active member of Mary Foreign Language Association (MFLA) and has served on numerous search committees. He has also been a founding member of the pollinator garden of the Old Louisville Community Garden (OLCG) and former of the Old Louisville Neighbor Association (OLNA).
