I worked in the Irish Houses of Parliament (Oireachtas) for 3 years, as a Junior Clerk. I spent the majority of my time in the Committees Secretariat unit, on the Committee for Agriculture, Food and the Marine. My role involved completing pre and post meeting tasks for Committee as well as providing support for meetings while in progress. I would liaise with government department officials and various stakeholders in the agriculture sector, to organise meetings for the Committee and its Members. Post meeting I would draft the minutes and compile all agreements made and relevant statistics for recording. I assisted in the drafting of Committee policy reports, which were published for the Consideration of government Ministers. Other tasks include: organising of Committee Travel (domestic and foreign); the organising and support of informal meetings with visiting delegations from other Parliaments; and various management tasks involved with being a line manager, such as goal setting and annual reviews.
