To provide technical support and guidance to individuals/teams conducting Human Tissue research at UCLan. Specifically, providing support for sample storage, record keeping, and use of the local Human Tissue database, helping to ensure researchers are within the guidance and guidelines of the Human Tissue Act 2004.

Receipt, preparation, and testing of saliva samples from NHS front line staff and patients to detect COVID, using the Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) method, to protect patients from potentially asymptomatic individuals

Key responsibilities within this role were to be a SME for the sites manufacturing areas and advise on potential quality impacts to sterility and batch quality on plant, investigate and write reports on potential deviations from normal manufacture, identify and assess risks to manufacture and non-compliance with site procedures and standards. A microbiology officer at GSK Ulverston is also responsible for the qualification and requalification of equipment on plant as well as the validation, qualification and annual requalification of plant sterilization methods using thermocouples and biological indicators.During my time in this role, the GSK Ulverston site started an End Of Life process on the sterile manufacturing building. throughout this process I have gained knowledge in microbiology end of life validation/requalification of equipment and areas, i have been involved in discussions around EOL requirements for a sterile manufacturing site to prove EOL manufacturer capability securing previously produced materials, and have been relied upon to plan, lead and report EOL activities.

The Shift Microbiology Technical Officer role at GSK has been an invaluable and very educational introduction to a professional scientific environment. The GSK facility at Ulverston produced sterile and non-sterile pharmaceuticals and is therefore subject to significant scrutiny from regulatory agencies.My role is to routinely test the sterility and endotoxin levels of inputs and out puts from site, to proactively monitor sterile areas to assist with maintaining our license to operate & react to atypical events quickly.During my time at GSK I have been trained in a wide range of laboratory tests and skills. These include but are not limited to; Endotoxin Testing Bioburden Testing Serial Dilution HEPA integrity testing Environmental Monitoring Deviation and Report Writing Laboratory Investigations Bacterial Identification Growth Promotion Procedural Audits Sterility Testing Data Trending Media Production, Sterilization and Testing Autoclave Operation
