Associate Research Professor Of Medicine

Indianapolis, Indiana Area

• The focus of research activities has been on arrhythmia mechanisms and techniques for signal processing to identify mechanisms of fibrillation and develop novel therapies. This has resulted in techniques to identify appropriate timing of defibrillation or pacing during fibrillation to reduce defibrillation thresholds or enable pace termination. My research has also identified stable sources that drive fibrillation in atrial fibrillation and ventricular fibrillation. Recently research activities have also included investigating the importance of sympathetic tone in cardiac arrhythmogenesis, and the development of technology to record sympathetic nerve activity from electrodes on the skin. For a complete list of publications, click the link below.

Associate Professor

San Francisco Bay Area

My teaching responsibilities included both lecturing and laboratory instruction to Electrophysiology (EP) fellows, post docs, summer interns, and medical students performing research. Laboratory instruction involved teaching experimental procedures and surgical techniques. How to collect, analyze and interpret data which included instruction on the software and hardware needed to accomplish these tasks. In addition to the EP fellows in the lab, we also had a medical student and various summer interns. My teaching responsibilities included teaching these students about cardiac arrhythmias, mechanisms, and therapies. From a research standpoint, I taught them how to develop a hypothesis, plan experiments, and review literature. I also worked directly with a medical student teaching how to write and submit abstracts and manuscripts. I also lectured on the topics of catheter ablation and signal processing of cardiac electrograms, teaching students/post docs/fellows the concepts and principles of each which also involved individual instruction which occurred throughout the year.

Co Director Ecg Core Lab

San Francisco Bay Area

Part of the Vest/Predicts clinical trial to risk stratify patients for ICD therapy. The ECG Core served as the central laboratory and was responsible for independently analyzing all of the data collected from the participating sites which includes the 12-lead ECG, signal averaged ECG, Holter data, stress test data, and BRS. The sites downloaded their data onto servers that are housed at the Data Coordinating Center (DCC). The ECG Core accessed those files, and used the appropriate software packages for analysis. All of the parameters that were determined through the analysis were then returned to the DCC where it was stored in a database.
