The University for Health Sciences (UHS) is the only public university of health sciences in Cambodia. Established in 1946, the UHS resumed activities in 1980 after the country’s most troubled history. Today, the UHS aims to join the ASEAN and global network of higher education and research in health sciences. Appointed by the Embassy of France in Cambodia, I was based at the UHS working under the leadership of the new Rector. Working with the Faculty of Medicine Dean and Vice-Deans, I was responsible for the development and implementation of strategies to improve medical education. Within the UHS Strategic Plan 2014-18, I was accountable for the successful integration, delivery and management of a diverse range of activities including:• curricula mapping and revision• assessments standardization• teachers and clinical instructors training • MCQ and OSCE development and evaluation • simulation-based education, training and assessment • training to medical literature search strategy and appraisal • international relations strengthening In 2013-15, our UHS team launched 2 landmarks projects: • The "International Program": preparing the 60 best Cambodian undergraduate students every year to study abroad with language training (French and English), self-learning, academic activities with young Cambodian lecturers locally trained by international lecturers (from UE, USA, ANZ), and social activities with medical students from around the world;• The "UHS Simulation Lab": introducing competency-based curricula at the Faculty of Medicine, developing and pilot-testing new learning sessions with mainly no- and low-tech yet high-fidelity simulation, training a 5-people simulation team and developing a network of 30+ young clinical instructors committed to improve education. In this international environment, I truly enjoyed cultivating cross-cultural teamwork skills and acquiring experience in change management in medical education.

In 2009, I was selected by the French National Health Insurance (“Caisse Nationale d’Assurance Maladie des Travailleurs Salariés, CNAM-TS”) and awarded a PhD study grant to study "Elderly critically ill patients and Intensive Care in France".From 2009 to 2011, I worked full-time as a junior researcher in the "EAM 4128" research unit, dedicated to interdisciplinary health services research. In this role, I initiated and developed the 2 following research projects: (1) A quantitative study aiming to assess the national hospital discharge database strengths and limitations to study and monitor the use of intensive care resources for the elderly population; (2) A qualitative study aiming to explore the physicians’ perceptions of and attitudes towards end-of-life decisions for elderly critically ill patients at the Emergency Department / Intensive Care Unit interface.

As specialist registrar in a 22-bed Internal Medicine Unit in a Teaching Hospital, I was responsible for the medical diagnostic and care plan for adult patients with complex and systemic diseases, for the supervision of interns, and for the bedside teaching of medical students. During my time in this role, I was involved in clinical research projects in the fields of oral anticoagulants and genetic disorders. During these two years, I was also affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine teaching team responsible for training students for the National Exam, and worked as an editorial board member for the yearly revision of a national prescription pocket textbook.

As specialist registrar in a 16-bed medical Intensive Care Unit in a Teaching Hospital, I was responsible for the critical care of adult patients with life-threatening emergencies, for the supervision of interns, and for the bedside teaching of medical students. During my time in this role, I participated to several clinical studies in the fields of respiratory critical care and mechanical ventilation, medical ethics, patient centered decision-making, shared decision-making and end-of-life care for the critically ill.

Young volunteer in medical education, I was acting as coordinator in the French-speaking international program at Faculty of Medicine, responsible for the following activities: - Medical French language training - Clinical cases conferences - International lecturers invitation - Selection of Chinese interns for scholarships to study in FranceDuring this time, I liaised with a French language teacher and designed a learning/teaching method with a multimedia DVD-Book aiming to prepare foreign students and doctors to work in French hospitals. I enjoyed during this time studying Mandarin at Shanghai Mandarin School to interact with Chinese students and teachers.
