* Designed and implemented database and import processes for various news feeds, including Dow Jones and Comtex. Programs ran continuously, processing XML and providing data for websites, applications, and 3rd party clients. Developed program to index and search news feeds using Jakarta Lucene, to enable fast full-text searching of millions of documents. All work done in Java.* Wrote a customized PHP replacement for a purchased stock charting package, which saved the company several thousand dollars a month.* Developed a Java Swing application as a replacement for the www.marketscreen.com website.* Converted www.money.net and www.pcquote.com websites to PHP. Did day-to-day programming tasks in PHP and C for various sites.* Wrote SnapQuotes, a subscription-based stock portfolio tracker (http://www.money.net/products/products_snapquotes.php).

* Designed and implemented various web applications including a redesigned user registration and validation system, site search, and a generic reminder e-mail system. Work was done with Java, JSP, Tomcat, Apache, and MySQL.* Wrote various administrative utilities for tasks such as log rolling, log processing, page generation, report generation, and site pushes.

* Wrote a Java program that takes Tintin pages and translates them into PHP pages. Tintin is a server-side scripting language developed internally at Viacom Interactive Services, and has been used on sites such as MTV and Comedy Central.* Developed a reusable listserv application using Dynamo. Also used Dynamo technologies (beans, Relational Views, etc.) while working on Sonic Net's Emerging Artists website.* Designed and implemented a film database for the Sundance Channel site redesign. Pages were written in PHP. Wrote significant amounts of PL/SQL for database access via Oracle stored procedures.* Wrote Tintin code for job search application for Infinity Radio's site launch.* Researched various alternatives to high-end server-side solutions such as Dynamo. Candidates included Python Server Pages and Zope. Made recommendations to my manager.

* Oversaw and programmed alongside a team of 3 developers in converting existing web site from flat file system on NT to Vignette StoryServer 5.0 on Solaris. Components of the project included creating templates for content delivery, designing a system for content entry and publication, creating database structure, harvesting old content from existing site, and converting ASP packages to JSP.* Supervised two other independent programmers on projects including internal JSP applications and web site reporting.

* Worked extensively with servlets and Java Server Pages on applications developed for newsroom and production staff. Projects included an editorial system for tagging stories with keywords and a production system to track and edit a story from conception to publication.* Wrote Java code for various administrative tasks. Projects included a program to monitor e-mailboxes and a program that harvested stories from the site and stored portions of them in a database.* Worked on projects that appeared on the live web site, using technologies such as ASP and applets. Projects included a system for polls, bulletin boards, and delivery of personalized/localized content.* Database work was done with Oracle 8.0.5. This included creating and modifying tables and sequences, writing triggers and stored procedures, and creating indexes.
