As director for Smith Demolition Limited, I have full responsibility for the commercial and engineering aspects of the company’s operations. As a chartered engineer with Engineers Ireland and a chartered building engineer with the Chartered Association of Building Engineers, my role, also includes the directing and management of the commercial and engineering issues associated with all the operations of the company. This responsibility includes the design of methods of work, temporary works layout, risk assessments and surveys related to demolition, asbestos removal operations and construction/building works. I and also responsible for ensuring that the company's operations are carried out in a sustainable manner, contribute to environmental protection and circular economy principals, ensuring best practice is achieved in reducing waste, increasing recycling targets and championing the idea of resource management and reuse/recycling as oppose to waste disposal. My role within Smith Demolition also requires that I am responsible for the implementation of the works, monitoring and ensuring compliance with drafted method statements, risk assessment, codes of practice, Irish and EU Standards including compliance with building regulations and all relevant legislation.Within my current position I also provide technical advice related to demolition, asbestos removal works, resource and waste/resource management and environmental protection to private clients, engineering consultants, local authorities and utility bodies. This roll also requires my management of a multi-disciplined teams. My commercial role within Smith Demolition, involves the procurement of new work, management of the estimating/quantity surveying functions, compliance with contract conditions, management of the company integrated environmental, quality and health and safety management system and employee management.
