Key contributions included: Mentored engineers and scrum teams on technical and agile transformation while serving as a SAFe System Architect on multiple Release Trains involving direct responsibility for on average 5 Scrum teams.I was asked to assist the NetBackup Team with their 8.1 software release. This involved travelling to Pune India and collaborating with the NetBackup Security Architect and NetBackup Release Architect on security design reviews, attack vector and surface risk assessment and mitigation, coordinating Scrum team technical interdependencies, and encouraging agile development best practices.Appliance Architect for the cross business unit Velocity Data Copy Management (DCM) project.♦ The project involved ~22 Scrum teams between the Appliance and DCM business units located in Florida, Minnesota, California, China (Chengdu and Beijing), and Pune India.♦ Negotiated and worked cross functionally to ensure both business units accomplished their non-functional and functional requirements within the schedules of each business unit. This included working with stakeholders to scope, assess risks, mitigate/address risks, and prioritize development backlog tasks. Key contributions included: Backup Appliance Data Migration Utility – Design, Implementation, and Productization♦ Architected, designed, and defined functional requirements to support customer data migration from older to newer appliances.♦ Expanded project scope to include migration support from legacy backup servers and 3rd party storage without increasing the project complexity or schedule.♦ Designed user interface layout and worked with GUI engineers on implementation, and coded core logic and XML/XSD.♦ The outcome was a flexible general-purpose data migration solution that enabled customers to migrate old data to new appliances in a methodical manner as a background task.WAN (Wide Area Network) Optimization Technology OEM Evaluation and Integration ♦ Researched WAN Optimization / WAN Acceleration technology and vendors. Software Engineer with the Veritas NetBackup. Key contributions included:NetBackup Encryption KMS (Key Management Service) ♦ Fulfilled the roles of Scrum Master, Product Manager, and project Program Manager (responsible for feature integration into the overall product release).♦ Defined KMS architecture, use cases, and requirements. Ensured “psychological acceptability” by including support for both random number and passphrase key generation.♦ Responsible for the source code integration into the mainline repository and compilation/builds.♦ KMS was the first NetBackup service to embrace an “economy of mechanism” design. All errors had a unique error message, and each error case had negative test case automation.♦ The outcome was a fully integrated easy to use KMS system that scaled up to 1000s of encryption keys and met a broad spectrum of customer needs. The software was coded in C/C++.NetBackup Cloud Data Encryption♦ Developed and coded specialized (US patent 8713300) encryption logic for the NetBackup data management plug-in framework. By using a layered plug-in design, the encryption module was general purpose and could be layered over any NetBackup supported storage device. Software was coded in C/C++.NetBackup OpenSSL FIPS 140-2 Compliance♦ Defined the appropriate FIPS 140-2 security sphere for NetBackup. Integrated the OpenSSL FIPS source code package into NetBackup and ensured seamless rollout of the new crypto infrastructure across 5 operating systems (Windows, AIX, HP-UX, Solaris, Linux) and 30+ compilation combinations.
