CellSolutions GmbH is the CE representative of the US company CellSolutions LLC, which is dedicated to the early detection of cervical cancer and its precursors based on the preparation and evaluation of microscopic thinlayer cytology slides. The company’s product line includes special reagents and various manual, half automated and fully automated methods and systems for cell collection and preparation of optimized BestPrep® thinlayer cytology slides. The subsequent evaluation of these slides is supported by the BestCyte® system, which after generating a high resolution digital whole slide image of the cell deposition area via a high speed scanner presents a cell gallery with the best candidates for abnormal cells as basis for the final diagnosis through the cytology expert.

The company is specialized on the development of customized, cutting-edge software for laboratories, combining fast turn-around times with solid design control. Currently the major focus is the cloud-based Laboratory Information System 'SelectIS' for full service laboratories. Other developments are specialty tools for Cytology.

Led an engineering team focused on the development and modernization of BD’s Cytology preparation and imaging systems allowing BD’s Cytology business to continue to gain market share. This effort included 4 successful FDA submissions. • Suggested, conceptualized, and prototyped innovative solutions for BD’s new product pipeline.

Led an engineering team supporting all aspects of Cytology as the core business of BD Women’s Health & Cancer including sustaining existing systems, supporting new cell preparation developments, and strategic planning of product roadmaps while reporting directly to the General Manager:• Organized and directed technology transfer of BD WH&C's automatic cervix cancer prescreening imaging platform to a new manufacturing site, thus significantly reducing the production overhead by consolidating the manufacturing of all cytology devices in the same plant.• Developed and implemented sustaining and modernization strategy for the cervix cancer prescreening platform ensuring the availability of an up to date screening system for BD WH&C's Cytology business.• Directed development of an automatic system for cell deposition, staining, and antigen retrieval with integrated chain of custody capabilities as part of a new, comprehensive Cytology workflow solution.

Led an engineering team in the research and development of innovative imaging technologies creating new products and enabling and streamlining the cancer marker research of TriPath’s life science branch:• Directed and managed the development and implementation of a comprehensive Digital Pathology infrastructure within TriPath consisting of fully automated virtual slide scanners with internet viewer, advanced image analysis software and a sophisticated slide tracking and management system to link result data to known cases and patient outcomes thus streamlining and enabling TriPath’s cancer marker research. • Led the development of a semi-automatic pathology workstation for routine laboratory use covering quantitative applications for a comprehensive breast panel evaluation including ER, PR, different clones of HER2/neu, P53, Ki67, DNA Ploidy, and Silver ISH. 510Ks for six of these applications were successfully filed and obtained. A significant number of systems were sold with a continuing flow of fee per use revenue.• Oversaw the development of a fully automated cervix cancer screening desk top device with automatic slide handling as companion system to TriPath’s novel cervix cancer markers. • Directed development of a Location Guided Screening extension for the automated cervix cancer prescreening system which led to a significant increase in system usage and fee per use revenue.

Led and managed the development of an innovative telepathology system inclusive remote controlled microscopy, a comprehensive image management system, and the second generation of a fully automated cervix cancer prescreening platform.

Led and managed the development of a fully automated cervix cancer prescreening system as well as a semi-automated pathology workstation for the quantification of DNA Ploidy, ANAs and IHC slides; supported successful IPO to go public.

Worked with and supported key customers in developing various imaging applications; prototyped bladder cancer prescreening system incl. cell preparation device.
