Profile bio

About Thomas Gerding, Phd, Mph, Gsp

Environmental, Health, and Safety professional with a passion for continuing education. I am currently a Supervising Environmental Safety Specialist (Industrial Hygiene) with the City of Cincinnati and a recent PhD grad from University of Cincinnati's IH program. I have participated in research projects ranging from public swimming pool compliance rates, to home office ergonomic issues during COVID-19, to how occupational stress affects cortisol levels.- During my time at Mubea and Barnes Aerospace, I have been tasked with describing factors that affect the health of the community in terms of ensuring chemical spills, visible emissions, and hazardous waste don't harm the surrounding community and to remain in compliance with state and federal EPA & OSHA regulations. - As part of this requirement, the EHS department is tasked with maintaining inspection records and waste manifest records for both hazardous and non-hazardous waste. - Technology was a crucial part of the job in that we maintain all of the necessary permits, test records, etc. in a digital format in case the hard copies were damaged. - There were many points where the validity and reliability of data was put to the test once a new project was hypothesized and either a safer work environment or a smaller carbon footprint was envisioned. We would estimate how much money would be saved or waste minimized and if it was believed to be a sound financial investment, the project was implemented.
