Having previously experienced homelessness, I have fought hard to get to a place where I could be at least, the partial answer to the prayers of those now experiencing homelessness, that I never had. Sadly during those times in my life that I was impacted by homelessness, I was also dealing with mental health issues, substance use/abuse and a severe lack of self-esteem. Knowing how these things effected my life, I now help by serving those currently experiencing homelessness and the silent battles they are fighting. At the end of my homelessness, I decided to enlist in the U.S. Navy and used this enlistment to save my life. During my time in the military, I was able to see what homelessness and poverty look like in many foreign lands and learned more about how people around the world work to assist these folks. When I received my honorable discharge, I still wanted to serve my country and community and this was the way I chose to do that. I truly enjoy watching an individual come out of the woods and learn to readapt to the world around them, that they too can be fully recovered!
