Based in the Family Law Department, and assisting within the Civil Litigation Department and Commercial Property Department.

Trained within the Commercial Property Department, I assisted senior Council lawyers with shop leases, environmental matters, housing issues, and care of public land and monuments.

I am working in criminal defence, and specialising in Road Traffic. I am managing a caseload of 150 clients which includes conducting conferences, advising on their case, evidence, and documents, preparing written submissions to the police and CPS and preparing papers for instructed counsel. Managing a case load of this size has also allowed me to become very successful in my administration, organisation, and time management skills.I deal with many different people and have to use my interpersonal skills to be able to adapt in a very short time, the way I work with them. I have to be able to pick up on when a client is struggling to understand, wants to get straight to the point, is embarrassed, or wants someone to sit and listen to them and be a friend they can call and trust. This skill lets me gain the most information regarding a client's life and improve their mitigation and legal argument.It has also strengthened my legal research skills, understanding of the case law, opinions, and legislation around the offences I work on, which has resulted in my submission and briefs being highly informative and has allowed me to achieve a high success rate in my cases.

In this role, I handled alumni data, which was then used to conduct fundraising. I raised funds for charities which consisted of IntoUniversity which helps disadvantaged primary school students get into further education, raising for research and the purchase of HIV medicine for children, and raising funds for scholarships and bursaries for underprivileged students.I used my interpersonal skills to build rapport quickly, but to give enough comfort for them to trust me with their data. I then used the data gained to decide which charity would be the most interesting to the alumni and tailor a pitch to increase the prospect of a donation to help the charity.In the first year of the role, I received the Most Donations Award, and in my second year, and throughout my final year of university I raised the second most donations.

Within this role I strengthened and added to my strong interpersonal skills, I did this by working with many different types of customers. I was the complaints manager as I have the ability to calm people down, build a relationship quickly, hear them and deal with their problem the best I can. I dealt with drunken parties, small children, and those that are disabled and aided them as much as I could. When I was working as Deputy Manager I held the responsibility of scheduling shifts, managing bookings, and organisation of the restaurant to accommodate necessity and requests, this was done under time pressure as we only had a short amount of time between shifts to arrange this.
