As a consultant I am tasked with performing root cause analysis of complex operational and strategic challenges facing clients to utilize in the creation of recommendations to achieve sustainable financial results. I create these recommendations by utilizing a problem solving skillset to quickly distill murky data and client situations obtained from client interviews and provided data. After creating the recommendations, I communicate usable insights to internal team members and client members via Tableau / Excel dashboards and PowerPoint. I also manage client and team relationships to ensure timely, accurate results delivery in the high stakes and fast paced setting of management consulting. As a part of engagements, I deliver then train clients on best practice procedures, tools, and standards to improve their operational outcomes. During my Summer Internship with Deloitte, I gained a better understanding of the health insurance industry by diving deep into the provider data division of a large national health insurer. I assisted the team by using data to optimize processes and enhancing the client's workforce management. I was able to consolidate over 20,000 unique data points to determine realistic processing times and create Analytics for the client to use in their decision making process. I was employed as an accountant for Weyerhaeuser on the benefits and compensation team. I was responsible for ensuring Weyerhaeuser was properly accounting for, managing, and if needed fixing our various benefits/compensation related accounts. Due to my accounting role, I gathered and then interpreted financial data for other departments to use in their decision-making processes. I assisted various teams with their duties including working with the procurement team during the RFP process and benefits HR team to set internal health insurance premiums. I also navigated and clarified problems, either financial or benefits related, from other non-accounting departments while understanding the existing “accounting” language gap. I oversaw making sure invoices crucial to retention of employees’ benefits and health insurance were paid in a timely manner. I managed relationships with the various healthcare vendors Weyerhaeuser used to provide benefits to employees and helped vendors resolve any questions or concerns they had. Due to the importance of correcting mistakes in my area, I learned to discern problems that need to be escalated quickly and those that can be solved later.

I was a staff accountant working on the benefits/compensation team within the corporate accounting team. I was responsible for preparing and tracking payments to the various vendors Weyerhaeuser uses to provide benefits to its employees. I was responsible for ensuring that all employees have the correct account coding and fixing any inaccuracies that may arise. Additionally, I am trusted to handle systems that contain employees’ sensitive information and have to decide what data is acceptable to give to other departments that request information.

As a tax intern, I was tasked with promptly preparing business and individual tax returns and fulfill other non-tax client needs. I learned to use tax software and QuickBooks to help prepare returns and assess the underlying tax implications for client reported financial information. Every day, I interacted with clients answering their questions and learned how to soothe clients’ concerns about problems they often admitted to having little understanding of. Due to the risk of incorrectly entering information on a return, it quickly became apparent that I needed to have a strong attention to detail otherwise I would create more problems downstream. I also learned how to admit when I did not know the answer to a problem and how to use the proper resources to find the solution.

On the job I had to solve complex logistical problems often involving 100+ vehicles while coordinating with my fellow team members to ensure maximum parking efficiency.
