Biophysical NMR. The Flynn lab uses inverse-micelle encapsulation of soluble proteins to try to understand the extent to which proteins induce order in the water surrounding them. To this end, I studied in detail the mechanisms influencing spin relaxation.

Interfacial Bioanalytical Electrochemistry. I developed a method to fabricate nanopore electrodes in quartz for single-molecule sensing and DNA sequencing. I demonstrated the viability of these new electrodes as lipid-bilayer supports, including the insertion and measurement of an ion-channel protein.
