➤➤➤Big Data finds rational information hidden in the noise. ➤➤➤DeepData finds information hidden in the unconscious. DeepData was born while I was training as an analytical psychologist in Switzerland. It was a collaboration between my two adult-life pursuits — analytical psychology and investing. Normally these two vocations are completely at odds with each other. However, as Zurich is the world headquarters for both private banking and analytical psychology, I found myself at a crossroads between two contrasting and totally divergent communities. Training and investing at the same time, my goal was to discover a way to synthesize competing principles and bridge both worlds. For years I tried to hold the tension of the opposites and find concrete ways to unify them. What emerged was DeepData. Adapted from analytic psychology DeepData is a way to access and become aware of emotion. Until recently, emotion has been ignored or repressed by finance. When someone hears "you cannot use rational tools", they immediately assume that this means disregarding all forms of rational valuations, statistical analysis and data mining techniques. Nothing could be further from the truth. DeepData uses many of the same advanced techniques as Big Data to analyze information. We do heavy math, run machine learning algorithms, and apply statistical techniques. The non-rational element in our approach comes from the data collection methodology, not from the algorithms. Once we have the data we apply the same rational tools as everyone else. DeepData gives financial planners an edge over the competition.

We envision a world where emotions and feelings are seen as valuable attributes in the planning process. We see emotions not as liabilities, but as powerful tools that enable planners to access deeper levels of awareness. Planners can thereby leverage both reason and emotion to co-create more appropriate and strategic financial plans for their clients. This approach builds communication and boosts overall satisfaction and retention rates.Behavioral finance and cognitive psychology both use self-reporting tools to gain access to the unconscious. The problem with the unconscious is that it is UNCONSCIOUS so you can’t get to it by using self-reporting or cognitive tools. DeepData’s tools access information that cannot be acquired thru standardized rational approaches. We are committed to enhancing business’ ability to "see the light" and serve customers in a more informed and less cookie-cutter fashion, which is one of the dangers of a hyper-rational business model.DeepData uses many of the same advanced techniques as Big Data to analyze information. But it is important not to sacrifice human qualities such as empathy, intuition and connection. Awareness of unconscious attitudes supports better communication and relationship. -
