I am a Mechanical Engineering Graduate currently working in the oil and gas sector for Ardyne Technologies, a fishing company. My role as Plug and Abandonment Engineer involves the decommissioning of wells using specialist tools to cut and pull casing, clean up wells and set bridge plugs. Our goal is to use modern and innovative technology to limit the number of runs in hole and therefore save time and money for the client.My professional career started in 2012 when I started working on a busy arable farm. I worked here since finishing high school and continued to help as much as I could while completing my degree. I started working with limited experience but have learned the job as I went and worked my way up taking on greater responsibilities. My duties include tractor and forklift driving, the operation of complex machinery, maintenance and fabrication, quality control and inspection of crops and produce and providing leadership to a team of workers.Starting in 2019, I worked as a Field Survey Specialist for Gyrodata where I had the opportunity to travel to well sites across Europe and work alongside directional drillers. The job involved assembling, calibrating and testing our tools on site before down hole surveys were taken and the data processed and presented to the client. I gained a lot of new skills and experiences while training for this job through both classroom and on the job learning. Unfortunately, due to Covid 19, the company had to make some redundancies, ending my career there prematurely.Outside of work I enjoy playing competitive curling. I have played all over Scotland and Europe and received a sports scholarship from my university to help my training while I studied. Some of my hobbies include Scouting, car mechanics and wood work. I started scouting at age 5 and have been through all the ranks up to a cub scout leader. In that time I competed successfully in a number of camping competitions and was selected twice to take part in the Blair Atholl Jamborette. I have been interested and involved in car mechanics since a young age, starting with helping my father with servicing his cars and progressing to completely restoring my own Escort RS2000 which I now show around Scotland and compete in concourse competitions. I also enjoy working in my own workshop with wood making some furniture and woodturning.On top of my school and university qualifications I have also completed courses in Welding, forklift operation and ECDL (Microsoft Office).
