Hi, I’m Tom and I’m currently studying the Bachelor of Climate Science & Adaptation at The University of Newcastle. I am passionate about climate science and meteorology, and I aspire for my career trajectory to enter the discipline. I am currently in my undergraduate program of my tertiary education, and I am gaining the skills to work in a career in the sciences. I currently work at Officeworks in Print + Copy and working in this environment has helped me gain transferrable skills such as learning on the job and IT skills that I can apply in a career in the sciences. In the fast-paced environment in Print + Copy at Officeworks, the work dynamic is constantly changing with new equipment and services provided. I have faced situations where I needed to learn on the job to perform in my role. I actively searched for internal resources and sought advice from other team members to complete my task. I also use specialised software both at Officeworks and in my undergraduate studies to complete tasks at hand. I familiarised myself with the software needed to complete the task by testing different settings and used already acquired IT knowledge to obtain the optimum result for the task. With these transferrable skills developing in my current occupations, it will set me up for a career in meteorology or climate science.
