About Thomas Heitz
Normalien ayant intégré l'ENS Cachan en 2010, préparation à l'agrégation en 2013 et Master 2 Recherche en Structures, Ouvrages et Matériaux du Génie Civil obtenu en 2014. J'ai poursuivi mon cursus dans la recherche en effectuant une thèse puis un post-doctorat au LMT de l'ENS Cachan en collaboration avec le CEA de Saclay sur l'étude des dissipations mécaniques dans les structures en béton armé lors d'événements sismiques. Je travaille maintenant comme chercheur à l'Institut de Radioprotection et de Sûreté Nucléaire dans le domaine de la dynamique des structures, ainsi que du confinement. En parallèle de mon activité professionnelle, et avec le soutien de mon employeur, je suis bénévole à l'Association Française de Génie Parasismique (AFPS) pour laquelle je participe à des groupes de travail, et j'ai eu l'occasion d'effectuer des missions scientifiques post-sismiques. Je suis également formé par l'AFPS au diagnostic d'urgence de structures.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I graduated from ENS Cachan in 2010, prepared for the agrégation in 2013 and obtained a Master 2 in Civil Engineering Structures, Structures and Materials in 2014. I continued my studies in research by doing a thesis and then a post-doctorate at the LMT of ENS Cachan in collaboration with CEA Saclay on the study of mechanical dissipation in reinforced concrete structures during seismic events. I now work as an researcher at the Institut de Radioprotection et de Sûreté Nucléaire in the field of structural dynamics and containment. In parallel with my professional activity, and with the support of my employer, I am a volunteer with the French Association of Earthquake Engineering (AFPS), for which I participate in working groups, and have had the opportunity to carry out post-seismic scientific missions. I am also trained by AFPS in emergency structural diagnosis.

The research project SINAPS@ has started in 2014 and gathers the main participants of the seismic engineering, both from academics and industry. The main goal of this project relying on SEISM Institute is to improve modeling tools allowing one to evaluate the effects of an earthquake from the failure to the vibration behavior of the structures and amenities. Because of the numerical cost and the difficulties associated to the modeling of dissipations generated by nonlinearities within civil engineering structures in dynamics, an additional viscous damping is often used to account for the dissipations not taken into account by the constitutive model. Hence, an equivalent viscous damping coefficient is calibrated in order to dissipate the required amount of energy through a viscous forces field. This thesis studies and compares different assessment methods of the equivalent viscous damping, and the influence of material and structural parameters. An experimental campaign consisting in quasi-static and dynamic tests on shaking table is set up and described in the manuscript. Specifically developed analyses and significant results are presented.
