In January of 2008, Tom established Hellman Consulting LLC, which specializes in providing support to clients in the areas of Product related Compliance, EHS, Sustainability, Product Quality and Due Diligence. His recent work includes directing projects which involve greening of the supply chains for GM subsidiaries in China and Australia (completed).

Tom had Corporate-wide responsibility for developing and executing compliance strategies in the areas of EHS, Product Quality and Customs. In addition, his department provided Customs support to the operating entities of Limited Brands as well as a number of third parties. In 2004, Tom was promoted to Executive Vice President, Compliance Services with expanded responsibility including Customs Compliance. He retired from that position in October of 2007. An additional aspect of his work at Limited Brands was his role as Culture Change Champion for Limited Logistics Services during the time that Limited Brands was undergoing a major culture shift to what is now called "the Limited Way". From 2005 to 2007, Tom served as the Chairman of the External Advisory Board for the Center for Resilience at Ohio State.

Tom had Company-wide responsibility for Environmental, Health and Safety Compliance and Sustainability Strategies. In addition, he was named Corporate Product Quality Officer in 1996 and his department was responsible for Compliance Oversight with respect to Products from Clinical Trials to Post Marketing reporting.

While he worked for Allied Corporation and GE he taught Environmental Engineering and Management at the New Jersey Institute of Technology and Tufts University.
