I am an MSc graduate from the University of York, having studied Bioarchaeology in association with the Hull York Medical School. I have a keen interest in the past, heritage, history, and research as well as an enduring fascination with analytical techniques and laboratory science used in the archaeological trade. With the aid of volunteer work and personal research projects, I have sought to expand my understanding of both the deep science of understanding the past and also the nature of fieldwork and on-site analysis. This has included two team-building and community-led archaeological digs with the Saltscape Project and the University of York with the use of GIS and field mapping. A personal experiment with the preservation of lipids in modern and archaeological samples using GC-C-IRMS and GC-FID as well as extensive research and data analysis was also conducted in my third year of study. This experience has aided greatly in my laboratory practice, including in the keeping of detailed lab books, following standard operating procedures and cleaning of labware and equipment. Outside of my academic interests, I have always pursued vibrant connections with likeminded individuals. I have volunteered as a lifesaving instructor and Lifeguard and am a member of both the RLSS and the British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC), for which I have achieved regional competition victories and group diving qualifications. These experiences have taught me the value of personal connection and understanding in both an independent and business environment. Additionally, In an effort to improve my own communication and oration skills I led and ran a radio show for two consecutive years and used the skills obtained while doing so to enhance the projects and presentations given later in my academic and personal life.My previous employment has further built on this, either by working as an organized and efficient team as a Lifeguard; dealing respectfully with members of the public, or handling a busy work schedule and the high-pressure environment as kitchen and wait staff, I have always been able to find a useful skill and enjoyment in the work I undertake. I take pride in my work, whether it be independently or leading or working in a team of peers to accomplish the best results possible.By continuing my studies I hope to accomplish a similar feat. I intend to learn and adapt, obtaining important skills for use in the industry or beyond, so that I may continue to improve myself and establish a position as a valued and effective team member in any workplace community.
