I co-founded Ovis Technologies with my brother Rich as the Chief Technology Officer. I specialize in online application architecture, website programming, software development and matching business requirements to technical solutions. I honed my skills and expertise while serving as a Technology Lead at The New York Times and was instrumental in developing their $30 million "Sales Order System" which managed all their online properties and integrated with corporate. One of the first activities at Ovis was to build our platform that allows Ovis to build websites, data warehouses and access management quickly and easily for a wide array of applications. Over the years, we have had almost 1,000 different clients/sites on the system. The system specializes in helping companies that need strong compliance but have small use cases. Typically, in order to get high levels of automation, compliance and a great user experience you need a lot of capital. Our clients typically have a small number of users so we have developed approaches that let our clients enjoy the benefits of enterprise software builds for a fraction of the price.

Ovis Technologies was approached by a group doctors who had a need to present medical case studies to residents under their instruction. The challenge was how to integrate the large volume of static case studies with technology, to track student activity, maximize learning and minimizing administrative tasks on a tight budget. Our solution was to build an application which made the case studies interactive, increasing their effectiveness. We systematized the input and grading of case studies to minimize the amount of administration needed. During a second engagement, we partnered with the doctor group to help offset expenses in order to upgrade the simulations which allowed students to practice disease diagnosis. We developed a unique system to simulate real life scenarios that was fully automated. For its ingenious approach to teaching, Akeso was recognized by ACGME, the US governing body for medical residents as an accredited teaching tool.

I started at About.com helping a team of developers determine the best way to develop organic software in small groups of 4 to 8 developers. I then joined the SOS (Sales Order System) team and carried those best practices into that team. There I had the pleasure of working a with a great database architect who taught me a lot of DB design and optimization. This was very helpful when I was tasked to help the Sprinks reporting team. Where I optimized a daily log collection and summary process from 12 hours down to 4. We also made recovery and reporting on the process much simpler which made the system more reliable. I then took on the lead role in the SOS team, and made many improvements such as real time inventory management, improvements of work flow and system performance. The New York Times purchased About.com for several reasons but one of the big ones was SOS. I then worked to integrate SOS in all their digital properties, accounting, and reporting systems. Some of the big advantages SOS gave them was more efficient trafficking of ads, flexibility in delivery templates, inventory management and prediction in real time and instant revenue reporting. I left About.com/NYT to start Ovis Technologies.
