In my role as an Assistant Psychologist within the Stroke Rehabilitation team, I work across both an inpatient unit and a community service to provide psychological support for individuals recovering from stroke. I conduct psychological assessments, offer evidence-based interventions, and contribute to multidisciplinary care planning to address the cognitive, emotional, and behavioural aspects of stroke recovery.Key responsibilities include: • Offering consultation to staff and other healthcare professionals to enhance patient care and recovery outcomes. • Delivering tailored psychological interventions to support the mental wellbeing of stroke survivors, improving quality of life and recovery. • Conducting assessments and contributing to individual care plans for stroke rehabilitation. • Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to provide holistic, patient-centred care. • Supporting the development of psychological strategies within the team and engaging in ongoing professional development.This role allows me to apply my expertise in psychological care within the context of a healthcare setting, while working towards becoming a Clinical Psychologist.

As an Assistant Psychologist in the CAMHS team, I worked alongside clinical psychologists and other mental health professionals to provide psychological support to children, adolescents, and their families experiencing a range of mental health difficulties. My role involved conducting assessments, delivering evidence-based interventions, and contributing to the overall care and treatment planning for young people.Key responsibilities included: • Conducting psychological assessments, including standardised measures and clinical interviews, to inform diagnoses and treatment plans. • Delivering individual and group interventions using evidence-based approaches such as CBT, psychoeducation, and behavioural management techniques. • Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, social workers, and nurses, to ensure holistic care for young people. • Providing consultation and support to families, helping them to better understand and manage mental health challenges. • Supporting the evaluation and monitoring of treatment progress through data collection and analysis to ensure effective outcomes. • Engaging in regular supervision and professional development to enhance skills and maintain high standards of care.

Offering support to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. Co-producing safety plans with people accessing our service and collaborating with internal and external agencies (e.g., CRHT and CMHTs) to ensure the continuity of support offered. Triaging referrals from ambulance services, 111-2, CRHT, and internal services within Norfolk and Waveney Mind. Offering telephone and zoom support for individuals experiencing barriers to in-person appointments. Signposting people to appropriate services, and supporting them to independently refer and champion their recovery. Working within a psychologically informed environment to de-escalate people's mental health crises and support independence through working with the client to offer individual tools for their recovery (e.g., finding a self-soothing technique which works for this person). Documenting information from appointments onto the internal system in a confidential, respectful and factual way, in line with GDPR and internal procedures. Appropriately escalating cases, for example, liaising with CRHT, social services (e.g., safeguarding concerns), and 999 (when appropriate).

I would answer telephone calls from the public, staff and other professionals regarding services to people in their own homes.The main parts of the job include:• Receiving referrals for Swift Response and Norfolk First Support via phone or via our computer system Liquid Logic• Assisting support workers in the community with queries about the people they visit• Look up information on Liquid Logic and also our rostering system Cygnum• Liaising with managers, service users, families and other professionals• Finding cover for staff absences.This role demonstrated my:- Good customer service skills- Good telephone manner and communication skills- Flexibility in working hours- Strong IT skills- Ability to remain calm during high pressure times
