The councils, composed mainly of parents selected by officers of Parent Associations, are the primary vehicle for community participation in the New York City public school system.• Successfully managed election for over 300 seats on the 34 councils, increasing turnout by 7 % over prior election (44 % as opposed to 37%) and setting a record for total number of eligible parent leaders who voted.• In response to council member requests, refocused training program on organizational and management issues resulting in 95% approval rating from participants in revamped program. • Created informal newsletter for highlighting council accomplishments and activities and sharing best practices. • Stabilized councils and refocused efforts on addressing community priorities.

Insideschools is a project of The New School Center for New York City Affairs and operates primarily through its website www.insideschools.org.• Visited and interviewed administration, students, parents and teachers at over 70 New York City schools. Wrote profiles of those schools for the website. Developed and commenced implementation of Sustainability Plan for the program. Researched and wrote articles on educational topics. Researched and answered questions from public. Promoted the program at meetings of community organizations and educational conferences.
