The Joint Operations Centre liaises and coordinates with Outstations, other UN Missions in the area of operations and external actors directly involved in UNTSO operational activities.The J5 role provides UNTSO HQ and JOC with coordination and planning. The J5 is JOC point of contact for all planning issues and is prepared to conduct other JOC tasks or duties as directed.J5’s area of responsibility deals with UNTSO HQ military plans, SOPs management, Staff Assisted Visits, HQ exercises, and coordination with other UN Agencies within the Mission Area. The main tasks include, but are not limited to:• Develop UNTSO military plans.• Develop UNTSO SOPs.• Maintain UNTSO SOPs and uploads on Lotus Notes (General Links / UNTSO Key Documents).• Develop UNTSO contingency plans.• Organize and coordinate special projects as directed by JOC SSO / CJOC.• Plan Staff Assistance Visits to the Outstations.• Conduct Staff Assistance Visits to the Outstations.• Follow up the findings after each Staff Assistance Visit.• Recommend, as required changes to military organizational structures and staff procedures.• Serves as acting officer responsible for planning Command and Control Exercises.• Serves as Project Manager for projects as directed by COS or the UNTSO Executive Board (EB).• Issue UNTSO Military Annual Situation Report.• Prepare complementary military plans contributing to UNTSO HQ military evacuation plan created by Department of Safety and Security (DSS).• Act as Watch/Duty Officer according to duty roster.• As a Duty Officer prepare and present an operational briefing and overview to all UNTSO HQ senior staff and as a report to DPKO NY and all UNTSO Outstations on regular basis.

A Line UNMO is to monitor and report to UNTSO HQ all activities that threaten the peace and security in the area of operations and any violations of the internationally recognized withdrawal line between Israel and Lebanon.
