I am presently the Head of Litigation and Operations at Oscar Health, where I oversee conflict resolution, feedback loops to the business departments and legal support for the Operations units of Oscar. Prior to that, I acted as General Counsel at Silver Fern Healthcare, LLC, a start-up digital/SaaS healthcare company where I focused on overseeing all legal issues and providing strategic advice focused on growth, addressing unmet healthcare needs, and evidence-based solutions. For the 25 years before that, I worked at UnitedHealth Group, including as Senior Deputy Counsel at UnitedHealthcare (UHC) and as a member of UnitedHealth Group’s Executive Leadership Team, the approximately 300 or so executives accountable for leading the enterprise and its 270,000 plus employees. In that role, I oversaw an organization with legal activities related to Emerging Technologies (Artificial Intelligence; Big Data; Blockchain); Digital Innovation; Consumer and Provider efforts focused on Net Promoter Scores; Provider Data Accuracy; Legal data and analytics, with a focus on defect remediation and generating actionable insights; Payment Integrity, including fraud, waste and abuse; Regulatory matters, including market conduct exams, Supervisory College, regulatory relationships and regulatory change management; “Backroom” activities of an HMO/insurer, such as claims, appeals, customer and provider care, broker and employer operations, fulfillment, reporting, work force management, and performance optimization. My organization practiced across UHC’s three lines of business: Commercial, Medicare and Medicaid. I also served as the Secretary to the Board of Directors of UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company, UHC’s largest entity by revenue and membership. In prior roles, I led UHC’s commercial litigation (including overseeing our REPAIR, AMA and NAIC’s MAWG matters), our Regional General Counsels, our operational compliance function, group account management, and have also served on the UnitedHealth Group Capital Committee.I served on the Board of a nonprofit and chair a voluntary advisory board of another nonprofit. I have been twice awarded UnitedHealth Group’s Pro Bono Award. In 2012 the Connecticut Law Tribune named UHC the Best Law Department in Connecticut for Use of Technology based upon the Data Analytics unit in my department. The Connecticut Bar Foundation named me a Joseph W. Cooper Fellow in 2014
