The Sample Preparation Technician is responsible for confirming that the human biological specimens delivered to the designated assessment area are accounted for on the specimen manifest. Primary responsibilities will include the removal of specimen transport tubes from kit packaging according to the safety guidelines outlined in the Specimen Receiving Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), while using necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Identifying samples that may be compromised or do not meet established acceptability criteria according to defined processes and procedures will also be a critical part of this role (e.g. not accurately labelled, open tubes, empty tubes etc). Personnel in this position may sort samples as needed into racks, pipette samples into 96- well plates, complete viral inactivation steps and enter required information into a LIMS system.

I am responsible for the training and supervision of two temporary employees. These employees, as well as I, help to maintain the inventory and quality control of samples used for studies and testing by analysts. I create worksheets for use by the Clinical Testing Lab’s analysts and am responsible for creating EDR’s from the data obtained through testing. I generate logs and transfer samples to other Medimmune labs. I assist in the maintenance of equipment used to store, transport, and test samples. Employment training has included GLP, Laboratory Equipment Maintenance, and various software used to maintain sample inventories.
