In my seven years as a researcher for hire, I have grown into an expert data analyst with a breadth and depth of skills that consistently surprises my colleagues. My resume shows that I can lead complex projects with large budgets and diverse stakeholders, inspire productive joy in the team members under my supervision, write meaningful reports, build collective intelligence, and translate knowledge in presentation or conversation. While it may not come up often outside of data visualization, I can confidently fill in as a designer or illustrator. I can develop software. I can build decks (the kind you barbecue on, not just the kind you convert to PDF and email to a client) from raw materials. I can cook a tasty three course meal for twenty people in an evening. I can write a catchy jingle. I am comfortable acknowledging my limitations and blind spots, but above all, my superpower is that I can virtually always be useful. I succeed in environments that are full of rich and varied stimulus, whose cultures are characterized by supportive accountability, trust, and transparency, in which power is earned and leaders are -- first and foremost -- servants to their staff. I generally struggle to the extent that my environment departs from the above. I love effective and sensible process, but cannot bear meaningless tedium. I take great care to express myself honestly, clearly and specifically, which feels hopelessly wasted when my audience is reacting to layers of meaning they have imputed. I take great joy in helping out (and will happily sacrifice to do so), but work that is demanded of me, which I don't believe will be helpful, is never my best.
