About Thomas Kupper
I am a physician scientist and have led the Department of Dermatology at Brigham and Women's Hospital, and the Cutaneous Oncology Disease Center at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, since their inception. My laboratory has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health for more than 25 years, and I study T cell biology in host defense and cancer, including a population of T cells known as Resident Memory T Cells that I helped to discover. I treat patients with Cutaneous T Cell Lymphomas, and am engaged in translational research in this area. Other leadership positions include Founding Director of the Brigham and Women's Hospital Biomedical Research Institute, and the former director of the Harvard Skin Cancer Specialized Program of Research Excellence in Skin Cancer (NIH/NCI). I am a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, American Association of Physicians, Fellow of the AAAS, and Honorary member of the Austrian, Japanese, and Korean societies for Investigative Dermatology. I am a former President of the Society for Investigative Dermatology, and have given the Montagna and Kligman-Frost Lectures in that Society. I have authored over 200 peer reviewed publications, many in high impact journals (Cell, Nature, Nature Medicine).
