This included a technical assessment of the risk assessment methodology used for sound engineering practice and the quality of the product.• Inspect and audit facilities risk management and safety systems to identify potential gaps and assess whether risk is at an acceptable level.• Provide advice to operators of Major Hazard Facilities on process safety, hazard identification, risk assessments, control management, safety management system implementation, emergency plans and safety cases in fulfilment of their obligations under the WHS Act.• Investigating major accidents or near misses, particularly relating to process safety events.• Provide technical assessment to internal and external agencies regarding the risk of dangerous goods storage and handling for the purposes of land use safety planning.
Lead Process Engineer - Optimisation Project
Duties included but not limited to:• Managed a team of four process engineers reporting directly to the Process Plant Manager • Managed the review and prioritisation of the remaining 500 outstanding punch list MOPU project with the client and completion items in conjunction with the relevant trade disciplines and contractors.• Reviewed process control and identified improvements to increase throughput, reduce downtime and simplify control philosophy for site operations;• Identified design faults and pro-actively developed modification calculations, drawings and supporting documentation to optimise design and ensure reliability;• Managed the implementation of design changes with specific work groups including trades and site engineering support; • Provided training for Control Room Operators and Plant Engineers in optimal operating parameters and procedures; and• Updated technical documentation and drawings to reflect modifications in accordance with site Management of Change Standards.Major achievements:• Completion of the outstanding punch list items from the MOPU Project.• Accountable for and successfully managed the identification and design to change out nine oxygen flow meters, a task that was to be completed during a specified shutdown window. These were incorrectly specified in the original throughput design. The new design allowed for a potential of $6 million p.a. increased production; and• A total of $40 million p.a. of increased production identified by myself and my team with 80% of changes implemented prior to completion of the contract.
Commissioning Process Engineer Lihir Mopu Project
Lead commissioning engineer, reporting directly to the Commissioning Manager, for Newcrest’s $AUD1.2 billion MOPU processing plant upgrade project at their Lihir gold mine. The MOPU project was designed to increase plant throughput by adding a replica of the current plant.Duties included but not :• Managed practical completion (PC) of construction, pre-commissioning and commissioning of all mechanical, electrical, process and control system equipment for: - Pressure Oxidation Autoclave, Sand Filter system and Ion Exchange Demineralised Water units, SAG and Ball Milling Circuit, Jaw Crusher and Conveying circuit, Two Thickening Circuits and One Carbon in Leach Circuit.• Oversaw the completion of the above areas and managed the principal contractor to finalise all critical punch list items to achieve PC to progress to the pre-commissioning phase as per the project schedule.• Developed statutory and commissioning documentation, including the pressure vessel register (AS 1210-2010 and AS 4343-2005), area specific commissioning plans, commissioning schedules, project procedures and control philosophies;• Established commissioning risk review and managed the subsequent risk register;• Defined scope of work, mobilised and supervised vendors for specialised service activities; • Monitored plant performance to ensure all design parameters were achieved before handover to Operations; and• Facilitated communication between Construction and Operation teams for handover deliverables, schedule and brownfields plant interaction (simultaneous operations).Major achievements:• Shared responsibility for the development of the project construction and commissioning Permit to Work (PTW) system.• Managed the commissioning of the Pressure Oxidation Autoclave to design rates, the execution of which was also recordable incident free. • Senior leadership team member of the Project from mid construction through commissioning to handover to Operations.

Installation of hardware and the development of an online monitoring program through excel; and• Initial modelling calculations for acid plant operations simulator.
