As the first full-time employee, I led early research and built and lead the teams that invented and developed T2MR technology. Those were exciting early years uncovering how to detect directly in whole blood at ultra-high sensitivity.It's a pleasure to hire and work with such a diverse group of many incredible chemists, microbiologists, molecular biologists, assay developers, biophysicists, and engineers. As a team, we've established T2MR for immunoassays, functional hemostasis assays, and ultra-high sensitivity cell-based molecular diagnostic assays for fungal, bacterial, and antibiotic resistant pathogens.Due to our great technology and great team, I've had the opportunity to lead many partnerships between T2 and a diverse set of life science, diagnostic and pharmaceutical companies. Additionally, I've been the lead for several non-dilutive government funding projects and the interface with several government agencies including FDA, CDC, BARDA, In-Q-Tel, and CMS.Over the past five years, I've been fortunate to play a lead role in our team obtaining multiple FDA clearances and CE-marks, including the first FDA-cleared direct-from-blood sepsis pathogen panel and the first miniature-NMR-based in vitro diagnostic instrument. Along the way it's been great to lead and be involved in numerous pilot and pivotal clinical studies that are observational and interventional, single and multi-center, within the US and abroad. I'm very happy to see the T2MR technology now in clinical use providing "substantial clinical improvements" (to quote CMS) in hospitals around the world!

While at UC Berkeley, I developed breakthrough magnetic resonance-based biosensors for molecular imaging under the direction of Professors David Wemmer and Alex Pines. They were great to be mentored by and the multi-disciplinary, collaborative culture at Berkeley was a blast. Because of the culture of innovation and collaboration, I was able to author sixteen peer-reviewed articles as a graduate student.

I got my first shot at working in a lab at BYU thanks to Gary Watt and Brian Woodfield. As an undergraduate research employee I conducted basic research in kinetics, mechanism, and function of metalloproteins and redox enzymes. I worked across several projects, including highly anaerobic enzymes and culturing microorganisms. I authored six peer-reviewed articles as an undergraduate.
