Utilized Raman spectroscopy at total-internal-reflection (TIR) incident geometry to quantify surfactant adsorption at the silica-water interface.● Designed, machined, and assembled a Raman flow cell. Operated and performed maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment. ● Constructed adsorption isotherms and fitted to Langmuir or Frumkin functions to derive equilibrium constants and lateral interactions. ● Employed multivariate techniques to have proper baseline correction for Raman spectra and quantify the contribution of each component at the interface.● Executed temperature-dependent measurements to access kinetic properties and proposed adsorption mechanism.● Disentangled a long-established issue regarding using surface methods to determine critical micellization concentration, which is a bulk property.Built an imaging ellipsometer with real-time correcting the image distortion due to the inclined observation angle.● Designed and tested all the related optical and electronic components. Wrote Labview program to operate the image acquisition process.● Captured images and measured thicknesses of thin films, including silicon wafers, SAMs, phospholipids, and graphene monolayers with sub-nanometer accuracy over 0.5 mm x 0.5 mm area. ● Studied electrochemical reductive desorption of self-assembly monolayer on gold to derive the thiol-gold bond energy and suggested the morphology of desorbed layers.Built a dynamic light scattering (DLS) system.● Setup all the related mechanical, electronic, and optical components, including goniometer, PMT, data acquisition board, etc. Wrote Labview program for automation and data acquisition. ● Used concurrently with Raman flow system to detect micelle/particle in the solution.Trained and supervised interns (Welch and high school students) and colleagues on critically clean sample preparation, chemical handling, experimental performance, and data analysis.
