Research And Development Scientist
Utilized Raman spectroscopy at total-internal-reflection (TIR) incident geometry to quantify surfactant adsorption at the silica-water interface.● Designed, machined, and assembled a Raman flow cell. Operated and performed maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment. ● Constructed adsorption isotherms and fitted to Langmuir or Frumkin functions to derive equilibrium constants and lateral interactions. ● Employed multivariate techniques to have proper baseline correction for Raman spectra and quantify the contribution of each component at the interface.● Executed temperature-dependent measurements to access kinetic properties and proposed adsorption mechanism.● Disentangled a long-established issue regarding using surface methods to determine critical micellization concentration, which is a bulk property.Built an imaging ellipsometer with real-time correcting the image distortion due to the inclined observation angle.● Designed and tested all the related optical and electronic components. Wrote Labview program to operate the image acquisition process.● Captured images and measured thicknesses of thin films, including silicon wafers, SAMs, phospholipids, and graphene monolayers with sub-nanometer accuracy over 0.5 mm x 0.5 mm area. ● Studied electrochemical reductive desorption of self-assembly monolayer on gold to derive the thiol-gold bond energy and suggested the morphology of desorbed layers.Built a dynamic light scattering (DLS) system.● Setup all the related mechanical, electronic, and optical components, including goniometer, PMT, data acquisition board, etc. Wrote Labview program for automation and data acquisition. ● Used concurrently with Raman flow system to detect micelle/particle in the solution.Trained and supervised interns (Welch and high school students) and colleagues on critically clean sample preparation, chemical handling, experimental performance, and data analysis.
Graduate Teaching Assistant
Instructed physical chemistry I & II, analytical, and instrumental lab courses.● Explained experimental procedures and supporting theories. ● Assisted with the proper use of instruments, including GC-MS, NMR, HPLC, Raman, FTIR, UV-Vis, AFM, STM, ICP-AES, SEM-EDS, XRD, EPR, CV, DSC, and TGA.● Assured safety protocols and lab hygiene were followed by the undergraduate students.● Troubleshot instrumental malfunctions and experimental errors. ● Evaluated the outcome results and explained possibilities that could have contributed to the experiments to improve it.● Graded weekly lab reports and final exams.
Teaching Assistant
● Instructed biochemistry and general chemistry labs for undergraduate students.● Technical skills: SDS-PAGE, gel electrophoresis, PCR, autoclave, protein separation and purification, ion-exchange chromatography.
Intern
Joined multiple technical teams to have hands-on experience on the rolling manufacturing process of the rebar mass production.
