Vice President - Chief Financial Officer
Collinwood Shale Brick & Supply Company
An eighty-year-old company principally involved in ready-mix concrete, quarry operations and trucking - composed of fifteen companies involved in five different industries. When I joined Collinwood in 2003, the company was on the verge of financial disaster. My appointment to CFO was the result of a strong recommendation from the creditor bank who was demanding that Collinwood management hire a competent financial executive. Due to my numerous successes associated with cost cutting, revenue enhancement and the sale of non-strategic assets, the company was profitable for the period of 2004-2007 and had an operating profit in 2006 and 2007, results that had only been attained once in the previous eight years. Unfortunately, due to continued ownership issues and a collapse of the Northern-Ohio ready-mix market, Collinwood went into a receivership in March 2010.Accomplishments1. Using risk analysis and competitive bidding, reduced insurance costs my first year by 20% while increasing coverages and reducing exclusions. Annual insurance costs were reduced by more than 50% during the time of my employment. Savings were in excess of $1,200,000.2. Compiling past and future costs and using court approved delay analysis, prepared two claims for delay, acceleration, idle equipment and unabsorbed overhead resulting in over $2,000,000 of additional profit to the bottom line.3. After reviewing the cost, benefits and funding of the current pension plan, froze the pension plan and merged profit-sharing plan into a new 401k plan to dramatically reduce future costs. Coordinated the education and training needed for employee buy-in of the new retirement plan.4. Inheriting an old vehicle fleet, negotiated the financial and contractual terms for a new bank line of credit and the purchase of more than $4,000,000 of new equipment and trucks.5. Coordinated the purchase, installation and start up of new computer system and GPS tracking program.
