    For many years Thomas Macleay has enjoyed an international carrer as a lyric tenor. In fact his first gig was as a boy soprano in Edmonton Opera's 1989 production of Carmen. He later joined the adult chorus while at University, and eventually returned to perform several principal roles. Following a Masters' degree at McGill and a number of Young Artist programs he became a staple of the Canadian Opera and concert scene. Some favourite stage performances include Don José in Carmen, and Cavaradossi in Tosca. Performances of contemporary operas include the creation of Charlie in Pacific Opera Victoria’s world premiere of Mary’s Wedding (CBC broadcast), Abel in Hypothèse Caïn, Algernon in The Importance of Being Earnest, and Michael in Frobisher at the Banff Centre.Concert performances include Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and Saint John Passion, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, Handel’s Messiah, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle, and Liszt’s Psalm 13 for Solo Tenor and Choir. In 2013, Thomas returned to l’Opéra de Montréal where he had sung many roles as an apprentice, to perform Alfred in J. Strauss’ La chauve souris (Die Fledermaus). He also reprised the title role in Acis and Galatea in the Kingdom of Bhutan and El Paso. He had previously sung Acis with the world's leading baroque opera company, Toronto's Opera Atelier, with whom he debuted as Pylade in Iphigénie en Tauride. Collaborators in opera and concert include Opera Atelier, Victoria Symphony, Vancouver Opera, l’Orchestre Sinfonia, l’Opéra de Marseille, l’Opéra de Québec, the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, Edmonton Opera and Alberta Ballet.Thomas Macleay studied music and drama at the University of Alberta, McGill University, the Banff Centre, l’Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal, the Centre national d’artistes lyriques in Marseille and the Canadian Vocal Arts Institute. In 2014 Thomas was invited to teach and perform at Bishops University as an Artist in Residence.
