35+ year career in atmospheric science beginning in the Air Force providing command and staff leadership, worldwide weather support, and program management. Retired at the rank of Lt. Colonel to become an award-winning TV meteorologist in Anchorage (FOX and CBS affiliates) and later an aviation and volcanic ash forecaster at the NWS's Alaska Aviation Weather Unit. Experience directly supporting aviation operations led to an NWS assignment at the FAA's Air Traffic Control System Command Center (ATCSCC) in Herndon, VA in 2006. Daily visibility to senior FAA managers led to a position within the FAA overseeing the transition of advanced weather capabilities from the Aviation Weather Research Program to operational use within the National Airspace System.
