About Thomas Maher

THOMAS M. MAHER, 67, joined Apex International Energy (Apex) as President and Chief Operating Officer in May 2016 and named President and Chief Executive Officer in May 2022.Apex is building an exploration and production business of scale by actively pursuing acquisitions and drilling opportunities in Egypt and other Middle East and North Africa countries. On August 29, 2017, Apex signed two Production Sharing Contracts (PSC) with the Arab Republic of Egypt for concessions in Egypt’s Western Desert encompassing 1.7 million acres. Apex announced its first field discovery (oil) in Egypt on January 2021, received its first development lease in March, established a joint venture company named Farah Petroleum Company in April 2021, and started producing in August 2021. In Jan 2023 Apex announced the acquisition of interest in six concessions from a subsidiary of Eni in Egypt’s Western Desert. Apex's total working interest production from seven producing concessions is 11,500 barrels of oil equivalent per day.Prior to joining Apex, Maher worked 30 years with Apache Corporation in various assignments. Maher joined Apache in 1986 in Tulsa, OK as a senior staff geologist and subsequently held the positions of geoscience manager and exploration and development manager. He transferred to Cairo in 2002 as geological manager and became exploration manager in 2005. Maher served as region vice president and managing director, Apache Energy Ltd. in Perth, Australia from January 2010 to February 2013 before returning to Cairo to lead Apache's Egypt business. Prior to joining Apache, he worked in various exploration and development geology assignments with Cotton Petroleum and Texaco in the Mid-continent, Rockies and China.Maher holds a bachelor’s degree in geology from the University of Massachusetts, a master’s in Geology from Miami University (Ohio), and an MBA from the University of Phoenix. He is an American Association of Petroleum Geologists Certified Petroleum Geologist.

    Apex is an oil and gas exploration and production business focused on Egypt and financed with equity from Bluewater and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and an RBL facility from Mauritius Commercial Bank. Apex is currently focused on acquisition of producing properties in MENA and conducting exploration and development operations in Egypt. Apex signed two Production Sharing Contracts with the Arab Republic of Egypt on August 29, 2017 for two onshore exploration concessions in the Western Desert. In 2019-2020, Apex acquired 1,500 square kilometers of 3D seismic data that was processed and interpreted. Exploration drilling commenced in December 2020 with three oil discoveries. Development has progressed thru a JV-OPCO with EGPC named Farah Petroleum Company approved in April 2021. First production commenced in August 2021. During the 1H-2023, Apex acquired six Western Desert concession interests from Eni's Egypt subsidiary IEOC. Four of the concessions are producing and now operated by Apex's JV-OPCO PetroFarah, while two concessions remain operated by Eni and their JV-OPCO Agiba. In May 2023 the East Siwa exploration concession was signed into Law where Apex and IEOC each hold 50% interest with Apex operating.Total working interest production is 11,500 boepd.
