Thomas Maier is an award-winning author, Emmy-winning television producer and international award-winning investigative journalist for Newsday in New York. His books about US history have been featured twice on the "Today" show, twice on “Morning Joe”, the CBS Evening News, ABC's 20/20, NPR's "Fresh Air" with Terry Gross, MSNBC's "Hardball with Chris Matthews, Cspan “Booknotes”, and at both the FDR Library and JFK Presidential Library.In 2022, Maier won the Columbia Journalism School Alumni Award for career achievement. In 2021, he won both a New York Emmy award and New York Press Club first-place for a Newsday documentary. In 2019, he published two books: "Mafia Spies” as well as "All That Glitters", an updated version to his award-winning book about Anna Wintour, Tina Brown and the Newhouse-owned Conde Nast media empire. “Mafia Spies” is being developed by Paramount for an upcoming documentary TV series.His 2014 book, WHEN LIONS ROAR: The Churchills and the Kennedys," was published by Random House's Crown imprint. Maier is also the author and a producer for Masters of Sex—about researchers William Masters and Virginia Johnson— the basis for the Emmy Award-winning Showtime television series. His other books include "The Kennedys: America’s Emerald Kings," and "Dr. Spock: An American Life", named a “Notable Book of the Year” in 1998 by the New York Times.Maier joined Newsday in 1984, after working at the Chicago Sun-Times. He’s won several top honors, including the national Society of Professional Journalists’ top reporting prize twice, the National Headliners Award, the Worth Bingham Award, and New York Deadline Club. In 2002, he won the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists’ top prize for a series about immigrant workplace deaths. At the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, he won the John M. Patterson Prize for television documentary making and later received the John McCloy Journalism Fellowship to Europe.
