Having undertaken a process engineering graduate program with Rio Tinto at Yarwun alumina refinery, my drive to learn can be summarised by some words of advice from my mentor after my first three months on the program - 'you make a name for yourself by solving the problems that are too much effort or too hard to be solved by others'. These words embody my values of curiosity, collaboration, resilience and determination, always striving to find the most efficient and economically-viable solution to any problem. Within my roles as Graduate and now Redside Process Engineer for the Digestion Technical team, I have had hands-on experience learning and troubleshooting multiple unit operations from ball mills and slurry pumps to heat exchangers and jacketed pipe digestion units (JPU). During my time at site thusfar, I organised and coordinated return to service a troublesome JPU, equating to an additional 440 cubic meters per hour of slurry processing capability; provided technical assistance on a condensate tank bypass configuration that removed potential refinery product quality impacts by 10%; and gained technical support responsibility / area ownership on two 7-effect caustic liquor evaporation circuits that removed 280 tonnes of water per hour from the refinery. It is through my willingness to approach and learn from anyone across multiple teams that I continue to grow my engineering knowledge and technical exposure, with hope that I continue to provide solutions and help make my manager's job that little bit easier every day. Outside of work, I am a mad NFL fan (Go Hawks!) and passionate foodie who likes to spoil my parents (and myself...) with top-quality restaurants whenever I get back to Brisbane. With these loves, I find some time to get the head out of the books. I am always eager to meet other professionals and learn from them, with a personal goal to relocate overseas for work in the future in aid of broadening my horizons.
